First and foremost. its not a "bungo bad" post. I love the state destiny is in. there are a few things i think need some adjustment but this Isn't a topic I'm creating for complaints about weapon or pvp balance. so lets leave all of that out of this please.
I'm posting this and looking for those who have had similar experiences to what I have for a civil discussion. That being said here's my experience thus far since the exotic drops tweak.
For the most part my experience was alright with obtaining new exotics for all three of my classes. I got a few old ones here and there as I collected but I think its to be expected as it doesn't guarantee new exotics over old ones, just that they're weighted a little bit higher. For a good while that was my experience as I continued to play the game. Now that I've collected pretty much every exotic piece of armor and weapon other than a few I've actually been struggling majorly to get those last couple. For example outside of raids there are only two exotics that i can now collect on my warlock, those being Geomag stabilizers and lord of wolves. I have now gotten well over 15 exotic drops just on my warlock where they have all been things already in the collection (my titan is down to year two only and my hunter has all of its armor) . It has me fearful of playing my other characters because I don't want my next exotic to be something I've already collected or something I don't care to collect (yet), as I am so very close to completing my warlocks collection. I have another friend who has had a similar RNG experience with collecting his Shards of Galanor (he now has his thankfully but it took him near 25-30 drops after he had everything else collected).
Is anyone else having similar experiences to this? I'd really like to know so as a group we can present this information to bungie in well reasoned posts and comments to see if there is still a drop weighting issue after a set amount has been collected.
Thanks guys

I haven’t had too much of a problem with it, mostly just the occasional mishap. Ex. today running blind well I cashed two bounties at the same time and they both gave me the same blade barrage gauntlet exotic?? It was kind of annoying but it’s rare enough that I’m like eh whatever
-
I dont see duplicate exotics being an issue. I have only seen one exotic drop on it's own in destiny 2 since it launched. I mean rare is rare but the rate I see them is beyond that. What I am finding is sometimes I do an activity and get duplicate legendaries, but so far that's it. I find the duplicate legendaries really annoying.
-
To clarify - are you concerned that the drop rates are supposed to be random, yet you are not receiving random duplicates? OR are you saying Bungie should prioritize rewarding you non-obtained exotics, and that they are not doing this?
-
Dupe exotics should NEVER happen until you have all exotics.
-
As a mostly PvP player (have all warlock exotics and all exotic weapons) I’ve gotten a good 10-13 drops of y1 guns and 2 armor pieces(both being skull of ahamkara)
-
That's how math works
-
In the hunt for the One eyed bandit I've gotten 5 exotics on my titan. Doomfang, skull fort, suros, and borealis twice. Sick knockout system.
-
The last 3 exotics I've gotten have all been duplicates.
-
I don't really understand why people don't realise the more exotics you have, the more likely a duplicate is. Say there are 30 possible exotics, you need two, you're odds are 15-1. Now you get one of them and your odds are doubled at 30-1. It's simple math, not bad rng.

The drop rate is trash countless hours spent playing this game each week and here I am half way through year 2 and missing 3 armor pieces. Shards of Galinor Ursa Sliding boots for the Titan According to bungie at the release of foresaken I was the target audience, keep me engaged and blah blah. In reality I don't care I am so burnt out playing this game for little to no reward. What would have been great was getting these items when I was still excited about playing, when running the shattered throne the first 12 times was fun.

I don't mind armor dupes, as it's always great to get a better roll on an Exotic, especially if it's one you use often. But weapon dupes don't serve much purpose except for levelling. Though when you've hit the level cap, they're needed even less, as you can pull infinite copies of the same thing from Collections. Aside from infusing more weapons to max, but you don't need Exotics for that. The only benefit at that point is that you'll save on Cores, though many would argue they shouldn't be needed for infusion, or the amount needed to do so should be reduced. My Warlock still only picks up two extra Special ammo from bricks in PvP because I can't find literally any new pair of Ophidians to drop. That could at least be Rocket Scavenger if not one for Shotguns or Snipers, but they refuse to drop to even get a chance at that.
-
The rng in this game has been pushed to atroniomical limits in order to increase player count and game hours. Bungie will push the drop rates of items to almost nothing, even if it means pissing off the community.

Having this issue also. Duplicate protection doesnt seem to work well.

I’ve gotten 5 Suros regimes in a -blam!-ing row. FIVE!!! And all I’m missing is one eyed mask

My last 6 exotics Fighting Lion Fighting Lion Chromatic Fire Cerberus+1 Cerberus+1 Sweet Business I got 2 Fighting Lions in less than 24 hours approximately. I got 2 Cerberus +1s and a sweet business all in less than 2 hours. Chromatic Fire was the only non-duplicate. Still don’t have Gwisen or OEM. Still missing DC ghost.

The exotic drop rate is an absolute mess. RNG in this game is an absolute mess. Getting new exotics should be dependent on how much you play the game and the difficulty of the activity you are doing, not random luck. I get so tired of seeing people who hardly ever play get all the new exotics while the people like me who really love this game and play it a ton get one new exotic every like 3 months. I pray that in D3 RNG will basically be non-existent. (oh who am I kidding, in D3 literally everything is going to be RNG) I would rather have every single exotic be tied to a quest, because at least then I know that I will actually get the stupid exotic instead of relying on dumb luck.

Bump I’ve been mostly focusing on my warlock because all I have left to get is chromatic fire. But every time I get an exotic it’s a duplicate helmet, even when I got two exotics to drop off a bounty both were duplicates
