Finished Dark Souls 2 last week and read a bit of the lore too. The bosses might be less interesting than in DS1, but the overall lore is a step up. It even showed me my favorite character, Aldia. Thank god I got him as the final boss because Nashandra was pretty easy.
Aldia is an interesting person and really reminds us that there’s always two sides to a story. After Gwyn lit himself on fire and practically brought about the curse, Aldia was one of the many people trying to make sense of everything. He worked so hard and sacrificed everything to end the cycle of light and dark and break the chains of fate that were forcefully put on him and everyone else, but in the end, he only became a semi-sane monster.
All because of the world’s first sin. Gwyn’s sin of going against nature. Really puts into perspective of how Gwyn could be seen as a selfless hero who sacrificed himself to save his kingdom or a selfish coward who ruined everything for everyone out of fear of losing his power.
Plus, Aldia just looks and sounds cool.
Anyway, onto number 3.

The big thing folks don't understand is lighting the fire IS BAD.
