  • Saber was badass, then all of a sudden she couldnt do shit with out what's-his-face. I hate it when they do that in anime. also them falling in love was just garbage. F/0 was so much better.

Funny, I was just about to make a Fate/ thread. The original Fate/Stay Night was a Visual Novel. In said visual novel, there are three routes, all of which are pretty different from one another. They all start off the same, but the Holy Grail war takes different turns and the endings are all pretty different. The routes are as followed: Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel. The anime version of Fate/Stay Night is an adaption of the Fate route. Each route features a different heroine, and the main heroine for the Fate route is Saber. The Fate route is often regarded as the worst route, though it still isn't that bad. So, why is F/SN anime regarded as horrible? Well, there are a couple reasons. The first and foremost reason is the fact that it is a pretty bad when it came to adapting the source material. The first half is pretty similar to the Fate route, but there is a part in the second half that is completely random. It shares similarities with UBW and Heaven's Feel, but it is a complete butchering. The second reason is Shirou, the main character. In the Fate route, Shirou is pretty unlikable. He is sexist (though Japanese culture is different, it still is stupid) and treats Saber (a -blam!-ing powerful servant) like she is just a girl. On top of that, his ideal of "saving everybody" seems -blam!-ing stupid. The problem is that in the Visual Novel, we can actually see inside his head and understand him a bit more. But in the anime version, he is terrible, though like I said, he isn't that great in the Fate route either. There is also the fact that Shirou has a shit ton of plot armor. Both UBW and Heaven's Feel talk about his ideal of "saving everybody", and Shirou is a much better character in both of those routes. He still has a ton of plot armor, but he doesn't treat Saber like a little girl and his ideal is put to question. So that's basically it. The F/SN anime is an horrible adaption of the worst route, Fate. Don't bother watching the Unlimited Blade Works movie either, I consider it about a million times worse. UBW might be my favourite route, but the movie is probably the shittiest adaption I have ever seen. The Fate Stay Night Visual Novel is absolutely amazing, just so you know. It was the first visual novel I have ever finished, and it was an amazing experience. EDIT: Holy shit I didn't realize this was that big of a post...
