READ BEFORE YOU POST!!!
I am really interested in why people believe what they do. If possible I would like to keep this post clean. DO NOT DEBATE, DO NOT MAKE FUN OF OTHERS. Simply state your belief and why. I don't want to see anyone saying anything negative about anyone else but feel free to leave a friendly comment. For the most part however i would like to refrain from anything but stating your beliefs.
Obviously i can't control you guys but i thought why not lets give it a try.

Belief: Atheist
Why?: I am an atheist because it is logical and supported with logic, facts & science.
What led me to atheism was the fact I always questioned everything. I never just accepted what other people told me, I always pursued my beliefs and cross checked information I found.
I think the most important thing in life is to pursue what you believe. Look at all the angles and question your own beliefs. After asking questions & finding answers you will arrive at a belief that you fully stand by that had a concrete foundation.

Editado por The Cellar Door: 5/30/2015 4:30:22 AMAtheist. Because I like asking questions that don't already have answers, my apologies if that came off condescendingly. Also, because I've never felt a "spiritual" connection with anything. I respect you if you do. Everyone views the world differently. I think that's something people on both sides of this meaningless argument fail to see.

Also included is a healthy dose of doubt in regards to reality as a whole as we currently know/perceive it. Whether there's a term that more specifically represents the beliefs i've strewn together, i'm unaware.

Belief: Atheist and existential and moral nihilist. Why?: I had been raised for the majority of my life as a Catholic, learning in school the fundamentals of the religion as well as other religions. At the time of 18, I was still believing though I was incredibly skeptic. It was also around this time that my exposure to the internet increased and I begin discussing varying beliefs with others and was taking classes in college that discussed various philosophies and doing my own research as well to find my own answers. Eventually I came to the point where I came to the logical conclusion there is no intrinsic purpose to life, all actions done are without worth, there is no afterlife, no deity, no objective meaning to existence. Unlike the existentialists though, I see no reason to try to assign your own subjective meaning of worth to life as well.

I believe what I want because I want to.

Editado por dendrox: 5/29/2015 4:10:24 AMDeism: I can see the intelligent design in the universe, but I do not believe in any organized religions/gods for various reasons (too much to post here, so I won't go over the reasons. Let's just say that all religions, especially the major ones have plot holes, contradict themselves in one are more occasion, claim things that obviously aren't true, claim things that are impossible, claim things that apparently happened once but never again, and claim things that simply do not make any sense.) I also believe that this higher power would have no control of our lives (maybe the universe, but who knows) and would not care about us. They would have just set the foundation for the universe and let it happen. Honestly I don't really care what is out there or if anything is out there, but If there is anything then that would be the only option that I can agree with.

Editado por Steel Assassin: 5/15/2015 2:18:12 AMBelief: Abrahamic monolatrist I was brought atheist. I started challenging my beliefs (the only good thing that came out of my upbringing was understanding how strong beliefs could be wrong). Decided to ask a question; I got an answer. I began spending hours every night reflecting on my beliefs, and started researching religions, their origins and the answers wise men came up for the challenging questions of their time. It's not a journey I've finished, but it's been an enlightening one so far.

Belief: Agnostic I just don't know, you know? Maybe there is a God, maybe there isn't. I'll find out when I die. But until then, I'll make my own way through life and live it as best as I can.

Belief: Steel Beams Reason: Impervious to Jet Fuel
-
Belief: Lord Gaben Reason: Steam Sales
-
Belief: lack of belief/atheism Reason: I am a very skeptical person who requires a substantial amount of evidence to truly believe something. I've always had good critical thinking skills and when I applied them to the bible, I found out it was pretty nonsensical.
-
Atheist I couldn't accept when I was younger people telling me 'you just need to have faith' as a reason that God exists. Faith did nothing for me. There is no scientific and/or logical proof that god exists. People say the bible is all the proof we need..but really? Also, how did 'God' come to be? They say 'he just always was'. I couldn't wrap my head around that. It just isn't logical.

Hard determinism because of the overwhelming majority of causal physics.

I have subtle beliefs; i dont try to shove my opinion in people's faces. I dont go to church, but when a family member is not well or a friend is not well, i pray for them because i feel like im pretty lucky to have made it this far and that God is indeed watching over me. I try to be thankful for everything i have, even though it's easy to neglect that.

Belief: agnostic/atheism (I understand that the laws of probability dictate there is most certainly a chance of a god it seems very VERY unlikely to me) I have been presented no evidence for a god yet am told time and time again that I am insane for not believing in one. I just don't believe.. I can't force myself to, I would just be lying to myself and those around me. Yes I do choose to be an atheist but that is because I can't believe with 100% certainty, not even 1% certainty, that a god does exist.
-
Belief: Mainstreamism I follow whatever Corporations tell me too, because it is the best way to remain safe. I know that the nail that sticks out, gets hammered... And that remaining hidden, is dishonest and cowardly. Therefore, running with the pack is the best option. I like to watch pewdiepie, troll forums, talk to my father about how much we hate women... And most importantly, put work in to suppressing my emotionally crippled, Narcissistic personality, without ever addressing it. MURICA

Belief: Christian Because I'm old enough to form a belief.

Agnostic Eastern Orthodox Christian with some universalist (we call it apokastatasis) leanings. Why? I believe the fact that every human inherently desires something higher than the empirical world can provide is probably proof enough that something higher truly does exist. Otherwise we wouldn't have the need for it. You can call it existential I suppose. And given that Orthodoxy is the only religion I'd truly call "transcendent" since the Western constraints of the Enlightenment and Scholasticism can't be wrapped around it like Western Christendom, I tend to find it more credible than Western Christianity. Why Christianity in general? Because if God is really is real, the Incarnation to me is the only thing that makes him worthy of worship. Why the agnosticism? Because in hindsight, the whole notion of religion itself seems absurd in light of our world. If anyone is really honest with themselves, they'll see how crazy this whole thing really is. Yet, I tend to think that maybe it's so crazy that it just might be true. Again, the only true religion to me must be a transcendent one. Why the universalist leanings? Because in Orthodox theology Heaven and Hell aren't places you go to when you die, but adjectives describing your spiritual state of being in relation to God's love. Salvation isn't an acquittal verdict but a lifelong process of being conformed to the image and likeness of God. We call this Theosis. God is more of a doctor than a judge to us. That said, I don't think God is such a bastard as to throw people in a furnace just for making the wrong choice. I think that everyone can potentially come closer to Him and truly experience Theosis regardless of what their religion or lack of religion might be. Christ did indeed say that He is the only way and the path is narrow. But just as not everyone who visibly belongs to the Church is truly living the life of the Church in Christ, then just maybe the inverse is true and people who are visibly outside of the Church may in fact internally be living a life more in line with the Church in Christ than those who visibly belong to it.

Belief: Atheist I cannot believe in gods. I would need ridiculous proof to ever accept anything as a "god". This is because I don't believe anything could ever be a "god". Unless something is truly omnipotent, which is impossible, then it isn't a god. There could be powerful beings out there though. I don't know.
