Tails of the Dragon Slayer -- Episode VIII: A Guardian is Born

Another five years had passed since the day I killed Alec. As the years rolled by, Shin allowed me to hunt with the shotgunners. I had proven that I was a strong fighter who could fend for myself, and, with the help of Alec’s shotgun, I helped down many Daybreakers. One day, though, everything had changed. We had just finished hunting, when, out of the corner of my green eyes, I saw something go into a nearby cave. I loaded my 4th Horsemen, and entered the cave cautiously. This cave seemed to go on for quite a while. It wasn’t until I had gone maybe half a mile, when I realized that there was an awful stench. It smelled like the remains of some undead creature. That was when I realized it. This was a Hive cave. I started to look to find my way out, but I tripped and fell down onto a ledge. I looked down, and could see the Hive architecture, and the armies they were preparing. “Oh no.” I thought out loud. “Those Vanguard in that Tower are gonna wanna know about this!” I looked around and tried to find a way off this ledge, but I couldn’t. The only way that it seemed I could go was down. “This is bad!” I whispered, panickingly. I sat down with my back leaning on the rock face that I tried to scale. “Hello?” a mechanical sounding voice whispered. “What the…?!” I jumped, and looked for where that voice came from. “Who said that?” “I did. Down here.” I looked down next to where I was sitting, and saw what I was a jade colored Ghost. “Who are you?” I asked. “My name’s Jade. I’m one of the Traveler’s Ghosts. I was trying to find my Guardian, but instead I got stuck in here. I can’t find a way out.” “My name’s Pari, and I’m stuck here, too. I’m a part of Shin Malphur’s posse.” “Hold on one second…” Jade said. She started scanning me, as if I was in an airport. “It is! Well, we might be lost, but I’ve found what I’m looking for! Just hold still…” In a flash (quite literally) she had bonded with me. She was my Ghost, and I was her Guardian. Unfortunately, the bonding wasn’t quiet. In fact, all the Hive down there heard it as it echoed throughout the cavern. “Well, at least now I can jump!” I used my double jump, and grabbed onto the ledge from where I had fallen. After lifting myself up, a horde of thralls approached me. Pulling out the 4th Horseman, I laid waste to them. “Throw a grenade!” Jade yelled, and I did. The solar light exploded, sending Hive corpses flying and giving me enough distance to get out. Jade and I got out of the cave, and I yelled over to Shin “Hive! On earth! In that cave! Warn the Vanguard!” Shin then gave orders for Eguor and another to take Sparrows to the City and inform the Vanguard. After the two of them left, Shin walked over to me and saw that there was a Ghost over my shoulder. He asked, “Pari, is that…” “This is Jade, Dad. And she is my Ghost.” Shin embraced me, and said that he was proud of me. “The time has come for you to make your own legend, Pari. However you do it, you will be remembered.” We looked up at the sky and saw a few Ahamkara dragons scattered through the air. “Wonder what wish they’re gonna be fulfilling next.” I remarked. “I hope I get to meet one. I’d wish for one of their teeth. It’d make a fine addition to my Daybreaker tooth.” Little did I know that the wish was going to come true. And Shin was right, I would be remembered, but Time can be rewritten.
