I honestly don't get it. It seems so stupid to pride yourself on something you had no part in choosing. It seems so stupid to give your allegiance to your country alone. I personally just cannot stand the thought of doing something that considered "patriotic" in a truly serious tone.
I'll be back in like, 2 hours or so to check up on this topic and see the responses. Please don't leave me hanging.
quick edit: I can see people taking defense of their country's core ideals, but so many are similar/mirror other countries that I don't see any reason to use the country as a reason for your need to defend those ideals.
aaaaaand I'm back!

I would say my pride comes from a communal source, my family and friends, the people im forced to live amongst, in hopes that if it ever got hairy, we would all unite together, irregardless of our differences.

There is a guy who comments on YouTube videos stating that Asia should be for Asians, Africa for Africans, and "White" countries for white people. He believes there is a white genocide taking place lol

Not so much my country, but certainly my county. (When it comes to football at least :))

Because they're idiots.

THANK YOU! I see so many taking pride in where they came from as it were some achievement they worked for.

Because they're stupid.

Take pride in your accomplishments, not in something that somebody else did.

I have absolutely no sense of cultural or national identity. Kinda annoying though, since my parents and friends have some.

Oh God not another pride hating thread....

BECAUSE IT'S MY COUNTRY. MY COUNTRY HAS TREATED ME WELL, I NEED TO TREAT MY COUNTRY WELL IN RETURN. THIS IS THE RULES OF THE LAW OF THE NATURE OF COUNTRIES. TREAT YOUR COUNTRY THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. AND YOUR COUNTRY MIGHT DO THE SAME BECAUSE IT IS A COUNTRY AND NOT A PERSON. I LOVE MY COUNTRY.

Modifié par lonepaul2441 : 10/4/2013 3:35:07 PMBecause if your going to start working somewhere and help keep the country afloat you might as well get something out of it. Also think of this for example, Look at the UK lots of great people, inventions and discoveries have come from the country, why not be proud to be a part of that? If people didn't like where they live then society is pretty much destroyed because nobody cares enough to improve things.

Modifié par G7kherc : 10/4/2013 3:39:15 PMI don't either. We are all one species/race as a whole. The Human Race/Species. Not to mention many people born in 1st world countries don't acknowledge how fortunate they are compared to other countries. Although lots of 3rd world countries a portrayed much poorer than they actually are. I'm half English, half Indian and live in the UK. So I know both sides and appreciate them.
