I recently learned that 4 of my friends can't swim, and I can't either. I'm wondering how common it is.

Everyone who said no is black
-
so apparently having the ability to flail your arms and legs in a rhythmic pattern is not a skill everyone has
-
I'm no Olympic swimmer, but I can tread water and swim.
-
I can. I really suck at it, but I can.
-
I'm embarrassed for anyone who can't swim.
-
If my panicked flailing counts as swimming.
-
I swim 1km every Sunday. Here in Sweden learning to swim is mandatory in lower/middle-school.
-
-
i learned that shit in middle school
-
I don't know anyone who can't swim...
-
I use to, then I manned up and started swimming in the deep end just fine. Every second semester in high school I took a swimming class that made me quite proficient at swimming now. No where near the best but I'm decent and can survive in water.

I tried to learn how to when I was a kid, I was around 5/6. . But I was never able to learn how to swim =( I almost drowned two 2 times though . . The first time when I was a kid 5/6 I jumped in the diving area of a pool that's at my high school (They had/have lessons and stuff there) . . I don't remember exactly why I did it, I think it might of been because I was curious about that area of the pool . . I remember vividly sinking to the bottom and trying to climb up to the surface of the water, but I couldn't . . I don't remember exactly how I got to the surface and out of the pool, but I did get out . . Nobody got me out . . It was late at night 7/8 pm . . By then a lot of people were gone . . The second time was at my friends house . . I said to my friend I wanted to dive in the pool, so my brother and friend said that they would get me out if I couldn't swim . . So I dove in, sunk to the bottom of the pool, I tried to kick off the bottom, but I couldn't stay above the water . . They see that, come over . . And pull me up and out of the water . . For 2 to 3 days after that I had a constant feeling of drowning when I would wake up =( I don't think I'll go back in a body of water that's 10 feet deep anymore.

This I my sixth year on a competitive swim team and I'm a certified lifeguard, so, yes, I can swim.
-
swimming is awesome. It's so relaxing, cooling, it also doesn't burn me out like running does. If you go for swimming training (mildly competitive), its also nice because there might be girls there. IMO if you usually see a girl wearing something conservative like a one-piece swimsuit, then, one day you see them in something like a bikini, it's so much hotter.
-
I can swim, not very fast though. Or I can just float.
-
I feel more at home in the water than i do out of it.
-
How can people not know how to swim?
-
People can't swim? Wow... How old are you OP.
-
This thread is kinda sad/worrying.
-
That thing you instinctively do before you drown? I'm pretty sure its a common trait.

...How can you not move your hands and feet back and forth in water?

There are people who can't swim? Truly a horrifying thought.
