Does anyone use Scout Rifles in PVE?

I loved them in D1. Then they got nerfed and then they got buffed and then the slow fire rate got patched and as far as I can tell they still blow in PVE. Fast firing ones are pointless with all the crazy range pulse rifles and slow firing ones are outclassed by bows AND pulse rifles. Even the exotic scouts are left in the dirt by graviton and bows. I want to like them, but they serve no purpose to me.

  • I use a Vouchsafe. Got a Zen Moment, Dragonfly Masterwork from Mara Sov. I enjoy it.

  • I miss my D1 Hung Jury... loafing into King’s Fall.... making pixels that were alive be dead... Has anyone written a poem about Hung Jury? Someone should.

  • No. Every time I try they just don't do enough damage. They used to be like hand cannons for ranged combat in D1. Now they suck. Don't use them.

  • I was surprised to see someone invading- and doing pretty well, as in able to kill me- with a scout yesterday. Good on him

  • I have a pretty good roll on the Gambit scout. Didn't use it because I didn't like the sound but it looks gorgeous with one of the ornaments. Played some strikes with music on and decided to use it. Actually very good if you get precision shots...a definite keeper and hopefully buffed in future.

  • In D1, I only used a scout primary when not working a bounty which dictated otherwise. Period, end of story. D2 broke me of that habit, handily. I struggled with scouts in D2 and tried everything else out. Y1 Nameless Midnight was the best approximation to the D1 feel for scouts but still notably weaker. I found my new calling in D2 and I’m in love with a single weapon class again: bows. I can’t stop using my Arsenic Bite with super low draw time, Rampage, and Boss Spec! I don’t even like any of the Exotic bows, by comparison, due to comparatively sluggish draw times. With my Arsenic Bite, I feel powerful in PvE. I don’t use bows in PvP, though. Have to stick with the meta, there, or just suffer... 🙄

Buff or Nerf, I'll run scouts till I die lol. Outside of Jade Rabbit, I finally got a Vouchsafe with firmly planted and dragonfly and a stability Masterwork, and my other go-to is the Distant Relation. The roll isnt great, but I've gotten team wipes in Gambit, many times with it. I do think they need a buff though. Effective range would be a must, since, at present, certain handcannons, autos and pulse rifles can match even Jade Rabbit.

  • Back when I played they were trash and it was depressing because it is what I used like 95% of the time in d1. Cant even 1hk even the weakest things with them. Popping heads off vandals and phalanx etc left and right was great in d1. Can’t do do that in d2 (last time I played) but honestly even a pve buff to those wouldn’t bring me back. Not much would. (I’m bored right now is the only reason I’m here, lol)

    • I used scout rifles all the time in D1 PvE and still do in D2. The only real problem is fighting close quarters because they can’t keep large amounts of enemies away from you or do enough damage if you don’t land a headshot. A lot of PvE fights in the Destiny games are in too small a space to use a Scout Rifle However, this isn’t a problem at all in D2 if you have a decent close-range energy weapon like an auto rifle

    • Scouts are adequate stand off weapons. I use them when I am doing daily/weekly story missions and Heroic adventures.

    • Everyone says that scouts need a buff when in reality people just don't know how to use them. The cut and run, and the vouchsafe are the two best legendary scouts in the game, and Polairis Lance is the best pve exotic scout and M.I.D.A. is the best pvp exotic scout. However, I do believe that the jade rabbit needs a buff, right now it's just a bad version of the Polaris.

      • Rarely. 1. Bungie screwed them up trying to get Nameless Midnight out of our hands, and basically nerfed BOTH explosive round AND SR base damage. Plus they introduced a firing rate bug into the 150-class of SR (the most common in the game) that caused them to fire too slowly. All of these have been fixed, but to took 3 months to do it. 2. The Content that most people play don't support SR use. Because of content design, very little of what we play in PVE is designed to allow players to stand back at a distance and pick off targets with precision fire. You're either fighting in BOX or on an open platform that FORCE you to fight at close-to-short mid-range (AR and PR distance). Or you're dealing with tons of adds rushing you and forcing that kind of fight on you (Escalation Protocol, Blind well, most strikes). And/or you're playing content that does these things AND DPS-checks you by either timing you....or putting you in competition with other teams using more effective builds (Raids, Gambit...etc...) So there is very little reason to deal with the all the problems that SRs create...when the game is handing out such powerful and effective ARs and PRs. I have a couple of perfectly rolled SRs (Nameless Midnight w/ Triple Tap and Outlaw) that are just waiting for the opportunity to come out. But for now they sit in the vault. 3. The Enhancement core economy. Makes levelling ANYTHING up to end-game levels painfully expensive. So very few players can afford to do this for anything that they aren't going to use every day.

        • Nope! There’s just not much point in handicapping myself by using a Scout Rifle.

        • Nameless Midnight was my baby until the nerfs. Never used anything but a scout in primary slot on D1 but they're just so bad now it isn't fun shooting a cabal in the face 20 times and he still not dead

        • Nah they’re garbage. Everything they do, arsenic bite / subtle calamity / Forge bow do far better, or even a long range scout. They’re among the worst pve weapons, along such SMG, sidearm, and sword.
