Headseeker and High-Impact Reserves deserve a buff

We need these perks to be more reliable like Rampage & Kill Clip.

  • Does anyone know if the delayed explosion from Timed payload also causes flinch. Im struggling to see what it brings to the table that Explosive payload doesn't.

Actually, they are reliable perks. You'll always have them without any need for a kill. Headseeker makes your pulse rifle more forgiving. It can even sometimes mean one less burst when factoring in different scenarios where you land a combination of body and precision shots. You really have to start crunching numbers and looking at combinations of bursts to get an idea of where you're gaining an advantage. Most players won't consider these scenarios but if you do, you'll begin to see gains. I looked at my favorite pulse rifle, Nightshade, and factored in combos with and without Headseeker. Without Headseeker: Body (b) =16 Precision (p) =25 All Body (ab) =48 All Precision (ap) =75 2 Body+1 Precision (2b1p) =57 1 Body+2 Precision (1b2p) =66 (2b1p)*2=114 2b1p+1b2p=123 (1b2p)*2=132 With Headseeker: Body (b) =16 Precision (p) =25 All Body (ab) =48 All Precision (ap) =75 2 Body+1 Precision (2b1p) =59 1 Body+2 Precision (1b2p) =70 (2b1p)*2=118 2b1p+1b2p=129 (1b2p)*2=140 Assuming that I'm going against 192 health (6 Resilience) Guardian, I would see gains from Headseeker in three different scenarios. In the 2b1p*2 scenario, without headseeker I wouldn't kill in the third burst even with all precision (114+75=189). With headseeker, it's a kill (118+75=193). Looking at a 2 burst combo of 2b1p+1b2P it's always a kill on third burst with all precision. But if the third burst is 1b2p, it's not a kill without headseeker (123+66=189) but it is with headseeker (129+70=199). The final combo 1b2p*2 shows no difference with an all precision or 1b2p third burst. But what if it's a 2b1p third burst? Well, without headseeker it's not a kill (132+57=189) but with headseeker it is a kill (140+59=199). So once again this is about forgiveness in the middle ground when you don't land all precision and you land a combination of shots to the body and head which is why I consider Headseeker to be one of the best perks on a pulse rifle.

    • High impact reserves is reliable. It increases from 12% of your damage per bullet from half magazine, up to 25% or so in the final (red) part of the magazine.

Pulse Monitor should refill your entire mag, and give you some damage resistance or speed boost. It should also activate sooner. Ambitious Assassin should be like the active reload in Gears of War where the overflow ammo does more damage at the beginning. Graverobber should grant some damage resistance from all melee damage for a short time after a melee kill. Hip fire grip should feel almost like halo, nuff said. Air Assault should be buffed. Box Breathing for non LFR should be brought back to previous nerf. Disruption Break should have a bit more time added. Dynamic-Sway Reduction needs buff and should reduce flinch effects substantially. Field Prep should only be on Special and Heavy weapons, primaries don't really need it. Firmly planted needs a noticeable buff and should always be able to pair with Field Prep. Forth Times the Charm needs to be in more of the loot pool or show up on more special weapons. Genesis should cause a larger explosion then normal shield match breakage. Headseeker indeed needs a buff in precision damage. High-Impact Reserves indeed needs a buff to damage. Mulligan needs a weapon spec to allow some non critical shots to feed ammo back into the mag along with missed shots. Or just make that part of the trait. Opening shot needs a noticeable buff. Quickdraw needs to add stability and hip fire accuracy for the first shot (or few shots for automatic weapons). Shield Disorient should debuff all effected enemies for a brief time. Slide shot and Slideways needs to be the same perk. Stability buff should linger a bit after too. Sneak Bow needs a noticeable buff. Timed Payload needs more separation from explosive rounds (either more damage with the same kickback or less damage but with less kickback and noticeable double flinch).
Oh all of these changes are for PvE, can't speak for PvP but balancing for the two should be kept separate).
• To be fair, both of those are still somewhat useable (but a buff would be welcome). Dragonfly on the other hand, makes the weapon automatically junk or a PVE weapon.

This. They should at least be on par so we think about which is better.

      • Or move the perks from the perk slot which kill clip and rampage are in to the slot which outlaw is in. The reason why people don't use these perks is not that these perks are bad, but most weapons have these perks in the same slot as kill clip and rampage. I mean when you have much better option on the same table, why do you choose worse one.

      • High impact. Reserves is fine on fusion rifles. What need to happen is at half a mag increase damage and flinch and knock back

      • I wish headseaker was just removed. I mean I totally get why people would like it, but in my opinion it’s a wasted perk and I trash any weapon that rolls with it instantly. I’m mostly a hand cannon and scout user though, so if I’m not hitting my critical shots then I might as well just be shooting blindly into the sky.

        • I 100% agree. I'm glad you posted this. I was about to post this myself a couple of days ago. The "bonus" damage to both Headseeker and High Impact Reserves should be increased. Headseeker needs about a 15-20% damage increase to be worth anything. High Impact Reserves either needs to begin adding damage bonuses sooner, or have it's overall damage bonus increased to that of Rampage x3 by the final few bullets. Otherwise, why on earth choose it over Kill Clip or Rampage??

          • Heck, I would be happy if most of these perks just worked at all. Heavy ammo finder? There's a crock.

          • Watch Bungie nerf Rampage and Kill clip instead of buffing the other ones.

            • I agree. I enjoy using headseeker on my Blast Furnace. It only gives it a minor increase in damage, but I can 2 burst any Guardian. If it were to receive a buff, it would be a slaughter out there.

            • These two perks are subtle damage boosters. They're not supposed to be as good Rampage and Kill Clip. Those are earned by scoring a kill. Could you imagine how broken things would be if Bygones had a buffed Headseeker? Or High Impact Reserves?

              • While I would agree, I feel like both of them are viable in pve. You don't get as large of a boost from them, but you also don't require a kill or kill chain to activate them. Not every perk/weapon needs to dominate in pvp. Especially ones that are activated by missing crits and running low on ammo in the mag.

I agree with below, for rampage and kill clip you have to get kills. Headseeker is a little boost that should trigger a lot with pulses at all times. So many times I get kill clip and then can't find anyone to shoot at or I am so damaged that its pointless (in PVP). I struggle to find a good reason to use HIR at all tbh, as well as sway reduction etc etc. I want my perks to always be active or require a kill trigger.

                • Especially headseeker. If you hit a body shot, ALL the following bullets should have a damage boost. Not just the very last bullet and 2 points... Kinda lame. Maybe not boosted to the level of kill clip or rampage but somewhere in there would be nice. I say this on the behalf of myself and everyone else that sucks at nailing crit shots. 😉

                • High Impact Reserves should literally increase a weapon's impact by like 10 or 15. Head seeker is fine as is honestly. We just need more perks like surrounded but in different variations with different procs
