Destiny is one of my favorite games of all time, and has played a pivotal role in keeping my friends and I connected as we go through our busy lives. I login today to find that my name has been reset: my previous in-game name was "Lil' Diabeetus". This is an alias I use in all the games I play, and I've never had an issue with this name before. I use the name as it represents my disability: I am a type 1 diabetic of 12 years, diagnosed the week of my 13th birthday. It's completely changed my life, and as a result of managing my disability I've also become an advocate for spreading education about diabetes. In Destiny specifically I've actually had DM's and interactions in matchmade activities and raids, and finding other diabetics or other people who know people impacted by the disability is refreshing and fulfilling. I'm assuming my name was changed because someone manually reported it, as I doubt it would randomly flag now by an automatic filter (as I've used this name since the day D2 came to PC). On one hand, I see that the name could potentially be offensive to some people with diabetes, but at the same time, is limiting me from being proud of my disability justifiable? I can't see anything in the "name code of conduct" that would be applicable unless they took it as offensive, but once again, is it offensive enough for me to not represent my disability? Regardless, I would try to change my name back to it or something similar, but I also don't want to change it without a little more elaboration into why the original name was changed and if a new similar name would also get reverted.
