So what do you lot think has been the most iconic franchise so far this generation? I don't just mean new IPs, hence The Witcher's presence (I haven't tried it myself, couldn't get into the first two, but there's no denying it's been very popular, and was critically acclaimed).
Basically a mixture of quality, unique design, and popularity. So the first two criteria disqualify the likes of Call of Duty and FIFA, for example.
Or for a dictionary definition:
very famous or popular, especially being considered to represent particular opinions or a particular time.
I'm going to go with Destiny. Overwatch is close behind.

LMAO this kids complain about Destiny on here so much but anonymously vote it as the most iconic franchise this generation. Bunch of hypocrites

Overwatch, anyone who says anything else is just a blind fanboy. As stupid as OverWatch is, even my mother knows what it is.

Ktan_Dantakteeにより編集済み: 7/20/2017 3:40:48 PMAbsolutely 100% Overwatch; no other game was that hyped up on a GLOBAL scale and then actually delivered. When people think back to Xbox One/PS4, Overwatch will always come to the forefront of their mind. The fact that Destiny is considered iconic and is one of the things this console generation will be known for hurts my soul.

Hmm... both Destiny and Overwatch were very influential. Destiny did inspire many other games, and OW is one of the most popular games to date (3rd most played) with a large fanbase... The others were great games but not that influential.

I hate over watch but it's impact on the gaming community should be noted. Destiny should also be remembered for how they managed to make grinding less of a chore. It had issues but you can't say it's a terrible game when it's had a lot of people playing for this long. And NMS is one of the best exploration games I've ever played. It had a lot of bullshit promised and that should be remembered as well. But it should also be remembered for it's exploration.

Wait I think you mean the Souls series all together, if anything bloodborne was one of the worst soul-borne games next to DS 2. I think overall the soul series created an entire genre of its own of Non-casual dark/horror rpg's, new games in this genre would be the surge(being a sci-fi twist) most recently for example.

Halo? None of the 343i ones, of course. The MGS series is amazing but I dunno if it would be considered iconic.
-
None of them are really unique nor do they stand out. People voting for Destiny? Nothing iconic about Destiny. Everything in Destiny has been done before.

Hmm. Either Destiny or overwatch. Destiny inspired a ton of different games and even though it has a lot of negativity around its it's still insanely popular and has influence the industry as a whole. Overwatch is by far the most popular multiplayer game to release this generation. It still has millions playing and has inspired numerous copies, as well as influenced many other similar games. Not to mention overwatchchas a huge presence outside of gaming as well. Its a social media icon, has numerous comics and short films and a large fan base of people who don't even play the game.
The witcher 3 is great, no doubt. But as a whole the franchise was nothing until the 3rd game came out. For that reason I wouldn't put it up there as most iconic. Though it's certainly up there. Bloodborne is just Victorian dark souls, not a major impact like it's predecessor. Titanfall has certainly had an impact on the industry, rushing in an age of advanced movement systems in modern gaming. But despite that, the game itself has not seen the success it probably deserves. Horizon Zero Dawn is a great action/adventure game, but nothing in it that really puts it up and above the rest unfortunately.
100% Overwatch, no question. It's staying power is immense and with the constant updates and reputation of Blizzard it will probably be at the top of Twitch until the sequel.

I don't especially like Overwatch but there's no denying its popularity and impact. Destiny's also popular, but nearly as much. That said, if Destiny 2 somehow blows expectations away, the franchise might get enough notoriety to compete.
