I like the new renown system, Bungie. But for the love of god I sometimes just want to do public events and not have to worry about getting a debuff every time I finish one. It would’ve been nice to have a toggle in the settings that would turn renown on or off.

Last i checked, we were supposed to be [i]rewarded[/i] for joining a faction. They want us to support them. why are we getting a DEBUFF for doing anything that isnt a strike or a crucible match? one that does literally nothing positive. that gets increasingly more punishing. for only 10 coins. seriously who thought that was a good idea. that's not "challenging" that's [i]tedious[/i]. Challenging would be something like "Enemies have fortified their ground! Lost Sectors have increased amounts of powerful enemies!" (more orange/yellow health enemies appear) or "Gain renown by completing objectives on your journey! Expend your renown in Lost Sectors, but beware, powerful foes seek to challenge the most noteworthy Guardians!" (Patrols/PublicEvents/Valued Targets give "renown". Higher "Renown" spawns a more powerful "boss" at the end of a Lost Sector.) This whole "get debuffed for doing anything on a planet so you can try to claw your way to 5 and through a lost sector for 10 coins at the end" thing is stupid and isnt "challenging" nor "rewarding" at all. its not even a proper "grind". it's a slog. grinding is one thing. this? this being not optional makes it pointless.

For the love of christ just quick travel back to the light house every so often. It's really not that hard to figure out workarounds. That probably why they did that anyway.

Well renown wouldn't be bad if it wasn't heavily a negative. If there were positives to balance out those negatives you could at least maintain effectiveness. You're just having to do it in a more specific way. This is like people asking for ammo synths. Having to go into menus to improve the gameplay is utterly moronic design.

We should get a buff of sorts upon rank 50 that makes us immune to the renown debuff for the rest of the week. Or possibly an aura of sorts. I don't know, just throwing ideas out there

Make the bond buyable, you only get renown when you wear the bond, gain faster the more faction armor you wear.

Totally agree - I don't wanna be nagged by a screen asking if I want to dump my renown instead of doing a lost sector. If we had another way of spending renown maybe, but I've done enough sectors to have become bored with them and with the catalyst out of the way I see no reason to go back in to one. Especially as they just take longer to complete. Are we being challenged by new set ups or just being delayed in clearing by debuffs?

I have an idea for this. Currently everyone gets renown no matter what. People wearing faction armor get bonus renown. I think they should make it so people don't get renown normally, and instead get it only if they wear faction armor. This will completely fix the problem that people have with renown, but will also still keep faction armor meaningful. Not necessarily sure if this would be a good or a bad change. It's just an idea that I had.

Renown should only trigger it's debuff when you enter a Lost Sector. It's the simplest and most effective solution. The death mechanic is fine for whenever however.

Since they ruined faction rallies by limiting them to 1 faction per account I don't give a -blam!- about participating in them yet while doing Escalation Protocol I get the stupid Renown BS which is annoying AF. Let those of us who don't participate in your nerfed faction rallies disable Renown. -
Yep I'm chiming in, the debuff should have a warning when signing up for it, can't get this over fast enough. It's also for gear levels everyone already has. It would all be worth it for some token to increase the power level of one item by just a point. Even that would be better than this senseless debuff for stuff you're going to dismantle anyway to buy more stuff to dismantle. Of course there's teaming up, but for PC players and no global chat channel to find out who's cool and who's an idiot there's no way except blind clan invites.

I’ve successfully grinded to level 50 and it was excruciating the entire time. Renown sucks and if it weren’t for the fact that they locked catalysts behind Faction Rallies I wouldn’t have wasted my time at all. I hate it being account based instead of character based (My 3 characters have always had distinct loyalties since D1 year one) but even more than that I wish that renown automatically turned off after you hit rank 50. To think I have to do this s—t all over again for the Sunshot!! 😫
