Xbox Destiny 2 Update Very Large Filesize?

Usually the filesize of an Xbox Destiny 2 update is somewhere around 1.0GB. However, when the game prompted me that there was a required update for Destiny 2 today (September 26 update), it indicated that the update size is ~158GB (the full game size). I have done a bit of research across some popular internet discussion boards, and I haven't found any other instances of players reporting this issue - this suggests to me that it is either an isolated issue, or something wrong on my end. Is there anything I might be able to check on my xbox (Xbox Series S) to prevent this from happening in the future? For example, my internal SSD was very close to 100% used. Perhaps the update was confused by not having enough room remaining and decided it would be better to perform a full update? (This seems unlikely because usually Xbox will alert me to "Free Up Space," but maybe?) I also understand that bungie delayed the update by a couple of days this week due to a "build issue." Perhaps that is related in some way to this unusually large update? Of course, if anybody else on Xbox is experiencing this issue, please share your experience. If it's affecting many or all xbox users, then at least I would know that it's not a problem with my device. Thanks

  • Hi there. Typically if an update on consoles is around the full size of the game, it's because of one of few reasons: 1.) Your platform (Xbox) detected a hard drive issue, a corruption with the existing installed files, or there was an interruption/corruption during the update process. 2.) The dev is intentionally requiring base game files be replaced for all players 3.) The developer made a mistake with the update build, which would cause all players on a platform or all platforms to experience the same issue. I'm not sure about Xbox, but with Playstation it's most commonly #1. In which case the platform automatically does a reinstall of the affected files in an attempt to prevent issues with the update. There isn't much you can do to prevent any of the above scenarios besides regularly checking your hard drive for issues and seeing what suggestions Xbox Support offers.
