What do you NOT like about certain genres of music?

So you know you say you don't like Rap or country? Why you say "Oh it's just talks about drugs, and gangs" and such and such. But have you actually taken time to listen to that genres you don't like? Anyways Comment below and share you opinion the options are limitless you are in control of your own answer. Why I don't like modern pop
To be honest it's all sounds the same recently and nothing really feels original anymore the beats are generic, the vocals, spew nonsense, and it's seems all eh. But I can't speak for all pop music, and it's my opinion so yeah.
Edit: so in all honesty I believe it's the radio is the fault of most people's distaste in music, overplayed songs, plays THE most popular songs ever, etc. but the thing I don't understand is why we don't like some music and some music appeals to others? Maybe it was the music we were raised around, perhaps its the certain vibrations appealed to our brain, who knows it's a mystery

Pop, rap, and techno requires significantly less effort to make than other types of music. Then they receive praise for their work.

Honestly... I don't listen to the radio anymore... It's all the same. Music isn't what it used to be. I still rock out to 70s classics. Then, I'll put in some Bone. After that, I might listen to some Boyz II Men... Music these days sucks fat donkey nuts. Noone wants to play instruments anymore. Everything is synthesized, and crap. Country has turned to pop, pop has turned to Electro, and rap has turned into something that can't be explained. The only good "rappers" are Eminem, Future, Yellawolf, Lil' Boosie, and Kendrick Lamar... Even Eminem is falling off... Lil' Wayne has been garbage from the beginning.

    • I don't mind any music in particular as I listen to music according to what mood I have. I hear any type of music even the one Im gonna describe below. The only music that sometimes makes me think is music without a message. I don't mean EDM, techno or similar music but music that have actual words in them but in the end it doesn't make sense. For example take nicki minaj, most of the music she writes is about her ass and how boys like her ass. She is not the only one but I thought I would name her as she fits the perfect description of what I'm saying. https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=AvExmgm-vhA I've listened to this song a lot more times than I should have but still I can't find the purpose of it. I don't mind it but when I'm thinking about it sometimes I ask why?

      • Rap - the enormous amount of illiterate and thuggish fans that comprise of the fanbase. Metal - the prodigious amount of arrogance and self inflated ego the fans can't help but display. The repulsive trend of long hair doesn't help withal.

        • You know, I used to like rap a lot, old rap was some of my favorite. Now it feels like it's the same thing over and over again, with no real effort put forward. I imagine there is some decent rap still that reminisces the style I use to like but every rap song I hear now is the same cliche mainstream song/idea If a rap artist were to come out now and revive that old style of rap, I'd listen to that artist, but I have yet to find one so my hopes of liking rap again are slim to none.

ITT: Insecure teenagers share their feelings about a genre in which they have no contextual comprehension of because they have disassociated themselves with society, and somehow feel like their conformity to anti-culture is superior to any other form of conformity. Thus they cannot understand the context with which this art form is to be received, ultimately failing to see it as art. I'll get back to the topic of discussion, I just wanted to put my thoughts in about the various responses in this thread. Many of you who are criticizing rap for being solely focused on guns, violence, drugs, etc., are the same individuals who will call Kanye West a bad artist. If you don't understand what I mean by that, you are exactly who I am talking to. Rap, and more generally Hip-Hop, has always been a reflection of the community. You criticize rappers like Chief Keef for rapping about violence, when Chief Keef gained popularity the same year Chicago had over 500 murders. What kind of music do you expect young kids who have grown up in this environment to make? Bedtime lullabies? Is art not purposed at being an expression of oneself? How are you going to discount it because you cannot possibly relate to it? Furthermore, most of those who criticize rap for the reasons aforementioned hardly understand the scope of the genre. It's funny to me that people specifically refer to modern rap. Before people like Andre 3000, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, MF DOOM, etc., your criticisms would have actually been valid. The diversity of sounds in hip-hop is at the highest it's ever been, and you would have to be either stuck in the past or unknowledgeable of the genre to disagree with that. That being said, back to the OT. Outside of the music itself, die-hard fans of classic rock are incredibly annoying. That time has past, and their supposed musical superiority is completely unfounded. Swans, Radiohead, Bon Iver, Godspeed You! Black Emperor; go listen to them. There is very high quality music being made these days. That new Bon Iver album was absolutely fantastic. This goes double for Metal fans. Musically speaking, I can't stand music that encapsulates feelings of negativity, and self-destruction. I've always tried to like metal, because it's an incredible body of music with some of the industries most talented individuals who are given far less praise in the mainstream than they deserve, however their lack of recognition is not unfounded, because of the subject matter and receptivity of their sounds.

Country Over the years most 'Country' music is just knock off and embellished 'Pop' music. The only major difference is that they exaggerate a nasally tone and the elongation of the letter 'R" in words to give the 'Country' twang to their genre. The instruments do not have all that different sound anymore, for they have opted away from the use of the tortured cat (Hawaiian/Steel) guitar. Moreover, many recent songs from country artists are plagiarized ROCK songs and also even last year there was an investigation into the manufacturing of a country hit. It appears that 4 of the top songs were all written in the exact same tempo, scale, nearly note for note, chorus, but only changing the words and by not too much. They were just all done by different 'artists' (read: performers), so they sounded enough different that not everyone (read: the simple minded music listeners) did not readily pick up on it. It's almost as if they've run out of talent and ideas. But how many songs can you make about tractors, pick up trucks, jilted hick lovers, your dog, and a plastic beer cup? Rap Where to start... Granted I have not heard all there is in rap, for I can't stand it. What I have heard of it; Overall I despise with a passion the message of the majority of the rap music that has been made (inb4notallrapisnegative, I said majority, not all) (inb4rapisntnegative, what of it do you listen to?). All wanna be rappers all go for the same formula that they see that made it big somehow. Guns, intimidation, disrespecting most everyone, drugs, alcohol abuse, abusive sexual practices against women, and just plain ego on steroids. Before anyone says 'Well ,that is the same thing as sex, drugs, and rock & roll'. I'll stop you here. That's not HOW S,D, R&R worked. Sex and drugs were synonymous with the Hippie generation where rock took off, but it wasn't meant as the rappers use it. In that era it was about peace and 'love', but not really love.... different discussion. Now, couple that with the lack of any real musical content. To be more high brow they add 3 piano notes repetitively to a song, like that somehow elevates it. The background music is so predictable. Then import techno noises, which does nothing more than make the repetition even worse. The delivery of the words tends to be angry and yelled. (Again.... not all, but too much does) Hip Hop It's not the worst of the 3, but I won't go out of my way to listen to it either. It all seems manufactured. So much of it seems to be whiny, man boys trying to act tough while warbling 8 notes per second to his love target of the moment. Pouring out his affection for her (body), even though he is not aware of her name. It at least has some form of musical content that could be listened to, but the manufactured aspect of that tends to kill it, if the words don't nauseate you first. Pop FAKE, FAKE, and FAKE It is filled with performers brought in because of how they look rather than any possible musical ability. Scantily clad eye candy gyrating while the song, written by a 40-something over weight, bald guy plays in the background by studio musicians. It all follows a manufactured component that all 'hits' are derived from. The performer, who can't carry a tune in a bucket, is auto tuned to sound somewhat on key. Then out of ego the performer does all manner of publicity nonsense, sometimes losing their minds, and becoming drug addicts because of the pressure put upon them to stay on top. There are a few Pop performers out there who really do have talent, write their own stuff, and play their own instruments. They are the minority of this genre. Back in the day all genres of music were made by individuals or bands, writing, playing, and performing their own work. To me, that is when music meant something more than it does today. Heck, some innovators created the very equipment and instruments they played. That isn't saying it still doesn't exist. You just don't see the likes of Boston, Van Halen, Grand Funk Railroad, ELO, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Chuck Berry, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Blondie, GnR, The Beatles, Clapton, Rush, Queen, Michael Jackson, Motown in general, and for the record Barry Manilow and the Carpenters, many, many bands and artists from the 60's - 90's, but all that changed the face of music somehow. Hit makers that made their own songs (maybe not all Motown). Even Country bridged the gap into Pop for a time (mid-70's), and it didn't suck. Just the entire environment has changed. This was therapeutic.

                        • I can't stand country for some reason. I can appreciate it but I just can't enjoy it. I just don't see how the southern draw is appealing in any way. I hate how a lot of metal sounds so similar. I know they have some unique stuff but for the most part it all just bleeds together. I hate that pop gets a bad rep. There's actually really good pop out there. I hate the stigma around electronic music. That it isn't real music. Or that it's easy to do. And this one is pretty broad. I hate how people say older bands are better just because they did something first or popularized a certain style.

                        • Pop because it just feels hollow and mainstream, I really hate anything that doesn't make me feel, if that makes sense, as edgy as it sounds I prefer the emotions of adrenaline, anger, and passion. I choose rock because it has a lot of feeling and passion in the instruments, it just sounds good. Okay that was kind of off topic, but yeah I don't like anything that just feels dry and void of emotion or meaning, so I hate hip hop stuff because a lot of it tries to portray similar emotions and it just gets old... Same goes for that "rap" where people just kind of mumble into the mic with a beat in the background, which also doesn't portray emotion
