*A Wild Gringo has appeared*
Many people have cited the new weapon slot system as one of the reasons why we feel less powerful in D2 and why former special weapons (Fusion Rifles, Shotguns, and Snipers) are rarely used. Many have called for a return to the D1 system of “Primary, Secondary, and Heavy”. I have even heard a proposal to add the former special weapons into the Energy slot. These two proposals have significant issues that I think can be avoided with a system that combines Destiny 1’s weapon slots with Destiny 2’s in a way that only adds power to the player instead of removing it.
My proposed idea is as follows: Bungie keeps the currently existing weapon slots, kinetic, energy, and power, but adds a fourth: Special Weapons (which in UI would go between Energy and Power weapons). In this change, all formerly special weapons would return to the special slot (excluding sidearms) leaving Swords, Rocket Launchers, Grenade Launchers, and Linear Fusion Rifles in the Power Weapon slot. This system would bot only increase the player’s range of choice and feeling of power more than any other option, it would also be done in a controllable manner that doesn’t upset current systems in place.
Of course the big question is: how would Special Ammo be given to players? In pve it would be just like Destiny 1, a random drop from enemies that is still fairly common. Just how common would be controlled by Bungie as they see fit to make Special Weapons special. In PvP it could be done in a number of ways. My personal favorite idea is that it drops from players killed by Kinetic or Energy Weapons. It would reward skilled players in a fashion that doesn’t exclude unskilled players and provides incentive for engaging in Kinetic/Energy weapon gunfights. That is just one option of many, and Bungie could do anything already done in Destiny 1 (like spawning with Special and/or requiring it from timed bricks) or try something completely new. As I said, they could entirely control the drop rate of special ammo to control how the game plays.
The biggest obstacle is the coding. Perhaps it is impossible to create a new slot for ui or other reasons. Button binding wouldn’t be awful. The new emote wheel could free up the Dpad and use that Borderlands style. Or perhaps a weapon wheel.
Tl;dr
Keep current weapon slots and add Special Weapons between Energy and Power that consists of formerly Special Weapons.
Thanks for reading. Give suggestions below!
-
Replace primary slot with energy weapons and replace energy weapons with special weapons. Fix. Huge community comes back. D2 has more breathing room
-
THIS....... IS.......... NOT...................BORDERLANDS......... It wouldn’t work in this game. Can’t wait for Borderlands 3 though

How about allowing players to put snipers, shotguns and fusion rifles in either the energy or heavy slot. Or maybe you have to mod them to one slot or the other. This would allow players that like the new layout and players that like the old layout to have it the way they want.
-
Delete one of the no sense two primary slots and place the secondary there like D1.
-
Separate pvp and pve
-
OR. We ditch the two primaries shit and go back to primary/special/heavy Bring back random rolls but each weapon can have one mod slot. Weapon mods can add an additional perk OR elemental damage. That satisfies the random roll crowd, the elemental primary crowd and the mod system crowd.
-
Cycle primaries and energies with the up button on the dpad and cycle specials and heavies with the triangle (ps4) Y(Xbox).

I had an idea similar to this, but it was a little more simplified than adding a fourth slot. It goes as follows: Slot 1: This slot would be devoted to Primaries. Slot 2: This slot would be devoted to Secondaries. Slot 3: This slot would be devoted to Heavy weapons. A bit more simple and I think it would play really well.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Penhalion Wolfe: 2/13/2018 9:16:37 AMFek you nearly choked me with laughter! So what button does this 4th slot attach to is it now to be tap button to switch weapons between primary and energy, long press to get power weapon and double long press to get special....no maybe long tap while spinning on the spot. Seriously NO! This is why we adults say children should be seen and not heard! Edit: As I respect the replies I got (all reasonable and civil) I will explain why a forth weapon slot is a seriously bad idea. Currently we have two primaries and a power weapon. This splits the weapons as follows. Autos, Subs, Hand Cannon, Scout, Pulse and Side Arms in slots 1 and 2 with only the burn being used to separate them. We then have Shotguns, Rockets, fusions, linear fusions, snipers, grenade launchers and swords in slot 3. If we introduce a 4th slot and separate out Shotguns, fusions, linear fusions and snipers into that. We have a situation where you need to now remember how to quickly switch between these weapons on the fly. A weapon wheel in crucible is going to get you killed and laughed out of the arena. It's simply not going to be possible to pause in the middle of a control match to select a weapon from the wheel. Now you could put them on the D-Pad but, then you need to memorise where they are and it's always been possible to hit the wrong side of the D-Pad while in the heat of battle (happens in all games that use the D-Pad as a weapon selector). So again this is going to lead to death by fumble. The solution basically isn't to introduce a new slot but, to do exactly what Bungie have realised i.e. simply put the slots back to the way they were and worked flawlessly for 3 years! i.e. Primary, Secondary and Heavy.

No thanks - if the game becomes a shotty/sniper fest like D1 I'll probably stop playing.

I made this post a week ago

Map the weapons to the d-pad and have Y or triangle open an emote wheel.
-
I would love this to be in the game and would give snipers etc a good usable spot and help you feel more powerful in general

I like it. I know that people want the special slot back but at the same time, so much of D2 is built around elemental and Kinetic. I think that 4 slots would give the player more choice about how to interact with the game. Bungo! Get on this PLZ!

Edytowany przez użytkownika ricstar: 2/12/2018 2:57:47 PMHow about this. You can carry 10 weapons with you, but how many ppl do that or use all the 'stowed' weapons we carry. Why not make 1/2 slots in the energy weapon block able to put a sniper, fusion or shotgun in it. The weapon ammo is filled with energy ammo pickups.
-
Special ammo would have to be very limited in pvp or keep it as it is
-
Yes a fourth slot would be the best option for us.

Probably Josh will add the extra sloth for another primary.
