I would rather watch an in person hockey game or be in the arena for a basketball game. Hockey is awesome, football is boring, Basketball is awesome too, both are like a ballet of opposing movements, football is a game of "gotcha's" and brute force- lame.
Sports on TV are boring - I can't watch either of those things I listed above on TV, I get bored and look for something else. Maybe it's the electric atmosphere of the stadium, or the group feeling. But that's the only time I enjoy it, so- -blam!-- shits expensive.
Also the way fans know their favorite players and who they played for and what their stats are, has to be the nerdest sports -blam!- of them all, I do the same thing only my "players" are little plastic miniatures. Sports fans are just nerds who followed the herd too hard.
Another thing- Soccer- cool sport, wish it was more interesting to me, I really do. But it's not... maybe I'd enjoy it more if I tried to get invested... nah.
Cricket seems silly...
Tl;dr Sports are weird,

That's the way the world works. The anti-sports thing I typically only hear from people who have a resentment to the norm; just because you don't like it doesn't mean you have to -blam!- on it. It's a hobby like anything else, football is a chess match between coaches relying on the execution of the team. Basketball just skews the responsibility towards the players rather than coaching staff, and maintains the action longer (except the last five minutes of a fourth qurater). There's a communal aspect to sports that's nice, you watch a common sport (MLB/NFL in the US, NHL in Canada, soccer in the rest of the world) and it gives you something to make smalltalk about. Sports are one of the last pillars of societal glue in a world of dying rituals.

I used to be in the camp of not understanding why people watch sports at all, but then I realized it's probably something akin to why I like to watch speedruns of games I enjoy. Someone playing out a hobby that you like but at a higher tier of skill than you could ever reach. Can be neat. That being said, I'm with you that I don't understand why some people get as into it as they do. like, I'd never put on facepaint or get into arguments with people over a speedrun.

How bout those Chiefs!!

Edytowany przez użytkownika Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 12/5/2024 3:38:48 PMI don’t get people’s obsession with sports in general. I can’t accurately express how much I don’t care and how boring it is to me.
-
It’s literally just people hitting each other while throwing a ball around, and every time someone scores everyone starts yelling. Hilarious
-
I've never really cared for football, even as an American.
-
It's the party and food and so on, it also for the strain funny commercials which I don't get either.

I love watching baseball actually

Rugby is the only ball sport I’ll watch.
Except for, uh… that other kind of ball sport… ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Yeah go football or something, I never played and so I don't watch it or care for it, superbowl is just a food and beer party day...
-
I don't get the fascination other countries have with soccer, nor that seemingly far too many here is the states do with college sports. That's why I watch motorsports.
-
It's so much fun to watch if you really get into it. The satisfaction of watching excellent and skillful plays come together is unmatched.

Edytowany przez użytkownika DarthWolfric: 12/3/2024 6:29:29 AMI’m a big football (soccer) fan. My origins are in the UK and as such I grew up with a dad heavily invested in it, and it’s great. One way to get invested in it is to google the EPL table, and randomly select one of the clubs on the table—preferably not Man City, Liverpool, or Arsenal, and follow how they do each match day, watch some highlights after each game. You’ll get into it. Having a friend who supports a rival club is always fun, too. I’m one of those “nerds” who argues about stats and compares with a friend after a game. It’s fun!!
