As a Filipino, I thank Omolon gave us a weapon in my Country's mythology

The Kumakatok HC4 is reference to Philippine mythology. It's about Door Knockers that gave bad omens to people. ( So far, people of my kind is rare in this community Has Bungie ever reference something international like this (Other than Susanoo)

All of the weapons that end in a dash and a letter seem to be references to various figures, cities or things from several different cultures. Some weapons are even references to one another. Skipping the ones that are places or things we have: Amina-E7 ( Muslim warrior queen ) Antandre-D ( Legendary Amazon warrior ) Aoife Rua-D ( Red Eva, aka Eva of Leinister and wife of Richard de Clare the Strongbow ) Arminius-D ( Germanic warchief ) Candace-B ( African warrior queen ) Chandragupta-A ( First emperor to unify India ) Cúchulainn-D ( An Irish hero who wielded the spear legendary Gae Bulg. ) Deianeira-D ( The wife of Hercules ) Dido-A ( Queen of Carthage ) Genghis-E ( Genghis Khan ) Gozen-C ( A few this could be but likely refers to Hangaku Gozen or Tomoe Gozen, female samurai. Could also refer to Nobunaga's mother ) Hannibal-E ( Hannibal Barca, one of the greatest military leaders in history. ) Hawkwood-A ( English mercenary leader who was later knighted ) Heath-FR3 ( Not sure, possibly Major General Heath? ) Herja-D ( Norse Valkyrie ) Izdubar-D ( Another name for Gilgamesh ) Jingukogo-D ( Legendary Japanese Empress ) Judith ( Not sure, few possibilities. Could be an Ethopian Empress or an Beta Israeli Queen that sacked Axum? ) Lamorak-A ( Knight of the Round Table ) Lyudmila-D ( Lyudmila Pavlichenko. Soviet sniper credited with 306 kills. Oddly, this is a pulse rifle ) Maria-MG3 ( Too many possibilities. ) Moriaen-D ( Knight of the Round Table) Nobunaga-D ( Oda Nobunaga, infamous Japanese warlord ) Pryderi-D ( Welsh mythological figure ) Raskova-A ( A female Soviet navigator. Went on to found several female air regiments during WW2. ) Rience-D ( King Rience, an enemy of King Arthur ) Sagramore-A ( Knight of the Round Table ) Sargon-A ( Sargon The Great ) Scipio-E ( Few possibilities but likely refers to the Roman general that defeated Hannibal. ) Shingen-B ( Takeda Shingen, a Japanese daiymo famous for his military prowess ) Strongbow-D ( Richard de Clare, husband of Red Eva ) Tamar-D ( Georgian sky Goddess ) Tamerlane-B ( Mongol warlord ) Trajan-B ( Roman emperor ) Vortigern-C ( 5th century warlord of Britain ) Vortimer-D ( Saint Vortimer and son of Vortigern. Overthrew his father as king. Albeit briefly. ) Xerxes-C ( Xerxes the Great ) Zarinaea-D ( Parthian queen that fought alongside her men in battle ) These may not be 100% accurate of course. A couple of them have more than one possibility so I'm guessing the most likely based on the flavour text of the weapon.

RIght, round 2. Some more references of note I've found. Letters A-D. We'll see who wins first. The weapon database or my OCD. >.> Again, disclaimer, may not be 100% accurate because I am not a Bungie writer. I've also skipped ones which just city/place names or titles ( Such as Duchess, Baron, etc ) and ones where I could not pin down any clear meaning or reference without asking the aforementioned Bungie writer. I hope said Bungie writer appreciates us noticing all of his work ;p A's - 123 Syzygy ( A bad astronomy joke. Syzygy is an alignment between three celestial bodies. Hence 1-2-3 Syzygy ) - Acheron SR5 ( Acheron is a Greek river said to be one of the rivers of Hades.) - Aether CSm ( Aether is a primordial Greek deity of the "upper sky" aka space ) - Affentheater C/L-A ( Affentheater is German for making a fuss ) - Agnes III ( Too many possibilities. Could be Saint Agnes, could be Agnes of the Cross who helped usher in the "Golden Age" of Spain, hint hint(?) by itself it means pure or chaste ) - Andacht 81 ( German for silent prayer ) - Anomie MSm ( Anomie or Strain Theory is the theory that the structure of a society can pressure individuals into unethical / criminal behaviour. This is seemingly reflected in the flavour text "Is lawlessness the natural state of the universe?" ) - Antapex MSc ( Antapex is the opposite of an apex. But specifially used in astronomy to refer to the apparent direction of movement of the sun / solar system in relation to other fixed visible stars. Yeah, if you want a headache Google it. It'd take this entire post to fully explain. >.> ) - Another NitC ( Another Nail in the Coffin. Hence the flavour text "Hammer it home". ) - Antimuon ESc ( A type of subatomic particle hence the flavour text "Can not the smallest particle menace the greatest warrior?" ) - Antinomy XVI ( An antinomy is a contradiction between two laws, beliefs or conclusions that are otherwise reasonable or valid by themselves. ) - Antipodal Hindsight ( An antipodal point is a point directly opposite from a given point on a sphere in this case specifically a planet. Sounds a bit complicated but basically it means a straight line through the Earth to the opposite point on the other side. Such as "digging a hole to China". That would be an attempt to reach the antipodal point from where you are currently standing on the planet. This is why the flavour text reads "Nope. Still don't see it.". As you would never be able to see your antipodal point since the entire planet would always be in the way. ) - Arcana ESc ( Usually a tarot reference but also refers to mysteries, secrets and the like. Hence the flavour text "Could anyone even claim to know the questions…or all the answers?" ) - Arighan's Blossom ( Seems to be a reference to the short story "Flower, Mercy, Needle, Chain" by sci-fi author Yoon Ha Lee. Which features a gun known as Arighan's Flower. The style of writing in the story is very similar to the style of many of Destiny's grimoire cards. ). - Avenue A ( Avenue A is the title of a couple of different songs and the partial title of a few others. If I had to guess I would say its referring to Avenue A by Tom Cochoren and the Red Riders. Given that Paul Mccartney is canon in the Destiny universe and all. ) - Azrael SR3 ( Azrael is the angel of death ). B's - Baryon MSc ( Another subatomic particle ) - Baryonic ESm ( See above. Flavour text also reads "What mysteries lie in the smallest shards of reality?" ) - Black Chasma ESc ( Chasmata or chasma are a type of surface feature of celestial bodies defined as a "deep, elongated, steep-sided depression". If you pvp regularly you'll recognize that Firebase Delphi is located in the Eos Chasma on Mars. Hence this is a Crucible drop. ) - Black Nox Stygius II ( This is latin for "The night of hell" ). - Black Trung-D ( Vietnamese. Could be a reference to the Trung sisters. By itself it means "loyalty" ). - Boolean Gemini ( Programmer joke. A boolean data type can only have one of two possible values. Hence One Way or Another ) - Bronzed Miyamoto-D ( Miyamoto Musashi was a famous Japanese swordsmen. ) - Bronzed Nox Volo V ( Latin again. Either "The night I fly" or "The night I wish" ) - Bronzed Thutmose-D ( Thutmose was an Egyptian pharaoh ) - Bronzed Yamaduta SR4 ( In Hinduism, a Yamaduta is a messenger of death that ushers souls to the afterlife. ) - Byronic Hero ( A Byronic hero is an archtype of literary hero. Specifically a type of anti-hero known for being tortured and mysterious. Hence the flavour text "Brood, baby, brood" ) C's - Caelum ( Latin for chisel. A constellation in the southern sky. Hence the flavour text "chisel of the night sky" ) - Camelopardalis ( A constellation in the northern sky known also as the Giraffe. Hence the flavour text "giraffe of the night sky." ) - Cassiopeia ( A constellation in the northern sky named after Queen Cassiopeia of Greek mythological fame. Hence the flavour text "Queen of the night sky" ) - Catena MSc ( Latin for chain. Could be a reference beyond that but the flavour text is generic. ) - Cepheid ESm ( A type of variable star. Hence the flavour text "What strange discoveries lie beyond our orbit?" ) - Cepheus ( A constellation in the northern sky named after King Cepheus of Greek mythology. Hence the flavour text "King of the night sky" ) - Cetus ( Another constellation. Known as the Whale. Hence the obvious flavour text "Whale of the night sky" ) - Chasma Esc ( See Black Chasma ) - Chilonis-A ( Likely refers to the Spartan princess of the same name who was the daughter of Leotychidas of Sparta. Since Xerxes is also a weapon reference. This is Sparta, etc ) - Churchill-J ( Winston Churchill. Flavour text reads "A superior quality firearm, battleworn but proven by years of reliable service on the frontier.". Which could be a reference to his years of military service in places like South Africa and India ) - Cocytus SR4 ( A river in Hades in Greek mythology. Thats two rivers in Hades referenced in the weapons so far. Cocytus is the river of "wailing". Hence the flavour text "The Omolon Cocytus SR4 will drown your enemies in a river of pain." ) - Corona MSc ( The sun's corona. Not the beer. ) - Cydonia AR3 ( Cydonia is the region of Mars where the infamous "Face of Mars" resides ) - Cygnus ( Constellation again. The Swan. Flavour text as expected. "Swan of the night sky" ) - Cyrus-B ( Cyrus the Great, founder of the First Persian Empire ) D's - Dammerung FR4 ( German word for twilight ) - Darius-B ( Darius was the third king of the First Persian Empire ) - Diluvian 10/4x ( Diluvian refers to a flood or deluge. Especially of a massive Biblical variety. Hence the flavour text "Tossed upon the seas of war and tragedy." Not sure about the 10/4x as it could refer to a few things or nothing at all. ) - Dorado ( More constellations. The Swordfish constellation this time. ) One note of interest; All of the "constellation" weapons are referred to as "relic firearms" in their flavour text and many are Bungie error codes. -.- I'll take a swing at E and onward later.

Yep. There are tons of weapons in this game with references to mythology, movies, literature, and other things. Some obvious, others more obscure. A couple of examples include: -- The 2 handcannons , The Devil You Know, and the Devil You Don't, which are both a reference to the idiom, "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know". --the handcannon, TFWPKY 1969, is a reference to "the fall will probably kill ya!", a line from the 1969 movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. --Radegast's Fury, which is a reference to Radegast, the Slavic god of hospitality, fertility, crops, the Sun, and war. --The Fourth Horseman, obviously, is a reference to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the 4th of which is Death. --Against All Odds, the machine gun, who's flavor text reads "odds of survival at 3,721:1" is a reference to The Empire Strikes Back, when C-3PO tells Han Solo that the odds for successfully navigating an asteroid field are "approximately 3,720 to 1" --Susanoo, the Warlock Fusion Rifle, is a reference to Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the Shinto god of the sea and storms in Japanese Mythology.

              • Omolon Tuonela SR4. "Tuonela" translates to "the underworld". In finnish 'mythology' and folklore, it was the kingdom of the dead where the shadowy ghosts of the dead travel and wander around. Didn't matter if you were good or bad - when you kicked the bucket, you went down to Tuonela. The rulers of Tuonela are Tuoni and his wife Tuonetar. Sometimes, living people found ways to visit Tuonela to gather information and spells, and the trip there requires weeks of trekking in a desert, and finally the crossing of the river with the help of a ferryman. Shamans could visit Tuonela by falling into a trance and tricking the guards. The more you know!
