I think you already know whats about to happen! 'All Guardians stand alert! Report to your class master now! There has been a breach in the wall!'
9 guardians (max. 3 per fireteam) vs. An army (5000-10000 units) of attacking Fallen/Hive. With the new subclasses coming and awesome new gear, 9 guardians will defend the Tower from invading Fallen/Hive.
This is an event like Iron Banner. It could happen anytime, it has a time duration 3 days and in those 3 days it could happen just once or multiple times. The intire 3 days could even happen twice a week or just once a month.
The enemies will come in waves of 100-1000 enemies each wave has a timer, so when you are too late the next legion will come!
The way the loot system works is that you will get (per wave) a loot boon/buff where engrams drop faster and sometimes there will be an exotic drop!
Feel free to give constructive criticism.

Sounds like Horde mode to me. I'm fine with that but would like to see more details. The way you're putting it sounds absolutely chaotic and a possible lag fest. I would do it as an instance from the tower's location with an 8 man team MAX. You get placed in relatively large area (similar to patrol maps) and enemies will spawn from a few different locations on one side of the map through the wall/buildings. On top of that, they will spawn drop ships in the middle of the map. Waves of say 20-40 enemies but instead of clearing waves to start the next one, each wave is on a timer, so enemies just accumulate if you don't kill them. Maybe have 9 waves where every third has some mini boss. Defeat comes in the form of enemies (like VIPs) maybe escaping through portals into the city or destroying an object. Guardians can respawn at the end of each wave but can be revived--kind of depends on rules of defeat. As for drop ships being able to spawn where ever. Just say there's a machine or some power that prevents them from using portal devices into the city and can only get to that point. I would also make it so spawn rates, enemy types, and mini boss abilities are randomized to some degree so no two versions of the game are the same. Lastly, have a tracker at the Tower that shows progress of defense on all servers.

Sounds reeeeeeaaaaallllllyyyyy difficult. I like the idea though.

This idea has already been posted on forums. I believe it even has the same title. But your version is not as detailed as the original.

Cool idea

That would be sweet.

Yeah right. A weekly event that's pve? Goes against what destiny is...cod 14 million.

Sounds like fun. I would like to see a mission where Hive Seeder ships impact the City and the Tower. Scramble response team's to defend civilians and push the HIve out of the City.

Who cares about the tower...I'll defend Petra at the reef.
-
yeh but the lag though......

Why the hell would they bother breaching the wall? They have ships! Hell the hive can rip a hole in reality and go wherever they damn well please. Not saying I don't like this idea, just has some logic holes. Plug those, and you are golden.

Your math is a little off... 16 Guardians broken down into 6 man teams leaves 4 of them squadless. Better rethink this Mr. Code Red, because the only thing alarming here is that earth's last bastion of humanity will be defended by someone who can't even math. Scary..

Sounds cool but its not explicitly recoloring and reselling the same content that already exists so that's gonna be a no-go.
-
Sorry it would be too much fun so Bungie won't do it.
-
No, because that would be fun.

Sounds awesome
