This community is a battered wife and Bungie is the abusive husband....

Before I get started for those of you who are not aware I regret to inform you that Gamespot released an article today covering the future of DLC content in Destiny. This is a direct quote from the article.
Destiny's microtransactions and paid expansions are both selling well, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said on an earnings call today, November 3. As such, Destiny players can expect to see more of both in the future.
So the microtransactions....the microtransactions that were supposedly implemented to fund future content is going to stay....but we will all still have to fork out money for DLC. Yet there is very little outrage over this prime example of consumer abuse. So that brings me back to my analogy. The Kotaku article sheds light on the fact that Bungie and Activision cut up Vanilla Destiny to be sold separately. The forums barely bat an eye. The article shows that not only was the game cut up, but that it was cut up for the sole purpose of being sold separately at a premium just so they could squeeze more money out of us. Any normal community would have been up in arms over such a revelation. The torches and pitchforks would be lit and the forums would have burned to the ground. But no. Not this community. You all just shrugged and kept moving forward. Oh well. Its not Bungie's fault. Its all Activision. Bungie loves us and wants to be good to us they just can't. So I am just gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change. I kry errytim. Microtransactions are introduced into a game that most of us have paid over $120 for Once again mild outrage from a handful of players, but overall this community just rolls over and takes it in the ass with pleasure. Thank you Bungie senpai for this great gift. They cut content and set it aside to be sold separately at a premium YET AGAIN and no one seems to really care. Some even naively believe that the microtransactions would lead to free DLC in the future. The rest of you all just shrug and then say well its not Bungie's fault. Its cl;early just Activision. Bungie wants to love us and be good to us, but they just can't. So I am gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change. I kry errytim Every misstep and every abuse is almost immediately forgiven and shoved aside in favor of blind hope and naive support. Each and every time they abuse or take advantage of the community you all just shrug and make excuses for them. You say its not their fault or that its just how the game business works. Or that they HAVE to make money somehow right? NO OTHER GAME WORKS LIKE DESTINY DOES AND NO OTHER GAME HAS TROUBLE MAKING MONEY. PLENTY OF GAMES MAKE PLENTY OF MONEY AND STILL DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR PLAYERBASE. Witcher 3 for example released over a dozen FREE DLC packs and their entire season pass was $25. The latest DLC called "Hearts of Stone" got a better review score than ANY of the Destiny content that has been released and yet it only costs $10. Bethesda is another prime example. They have released games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim all to critical and FINANCIAL success. They released quality DLC for a fair price and they made a FORTUNE. Bioware released Mass Effect 3 with quality DLC for a fair price and even threw in FREE multiplayer DLC packs every month or so. Yet it was the most financially successful game in the franchise. You people need to wake the -blam!- up and look around you. Look at all the games that have been released since Destiny launched and look at how many have used the kind of underhanded tactics that has been used with Destiny. Stop using "Business" as an excuse as if it alleviates ALL abuses. Stop using your hours played as an excuse as if you are in too deep to be treated with respect. Stop shrugging your -blam!-ing shoulders as if there is nothing you can do. Stop acting like there is nothing wrong. Stop acting like Bungie owns your -blam!-ing dignity and self respect just because you happen to like the game. And for the love of god stop forgiving them every single time they decide to abuse your trust as a consumer. You are just like a battered wife that loves her husband too much to realize that he is a steaming pile of abusive shit and that you can do BETTER for yourself and that you DESERVE to be treated better. For -blam!- sake.

        • No one at Bungie ever said DLC was going to be free. Kotaku had an unconfirmed article detailing this, it was pure speculation, their presentation was off and people thought it was legit. This isn't the first time Kotaku has mislead their readers. There have been 3+ articles over this past year where what they posted about Destiny has been flat-out wrong. Hence why I didn't believe them when they said 'DLC = free'.
NO OTHER GAME WORKS LIKE DESTINY DOES AND NO OTHER GAME HAS TROUBLE MAKING MONEY. PLENTY OF GAMES MAKE PLENTY OF MONEY AND STILL DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR PLAYERBASE.
One, the games you list are (with the exception of ME3's multiplayer) single-player games, which means they aren't paying for servers and maintenance the same way. ME3's servers are also much smaller, did not last as long, and were in-part supported by the microtransactions associated with the 'random packs' that earn you weapons, abilities, and class builds. Two, you start the statement by saying Destiny is unique and then want it to conform to your idea. Those ideas are self-defeating when used together. Three, plenty of games have problems making money. And plenty of games 'take advantage of their player base' as I believe you see it. A phrase like this adds nothing to the discussion. Your definition of 'taking advantage' is significantly more restricted than mine. I believe that silver is another profit stream that, so far, has no impact on the power level of the game. There is no reason to dislike it except if you believe what many other believe. They believed that the community was funding the DLCs by purchasing silver. Except the purchasing of the silver was the BUY THE SILVER, nothing else. What happens to that money afterwards is up to the business, not the customers. If they give something back to the community, great. But people expecting Bungie to give away things because of separate content purchasing is unrealistic. And to further expect this content to go to everyone, including the people who did not spend any of the money that supposedly 'needs' to fund the free content, is borderline insanity. Anything in addition to initial content of a game you purchase isn't deserved, it's gifted. A person doesn't DESERVE free things, they shouldn't EXPECT free things, they should EARN things. Whether it's through energy, time, intelligence, money, or some other form of currency a person has to figure out if their investment will be worth the gains. This is how everything in a living organism's life works. You thought the time spent on you post, OP, was worth it. I thought my time spent on a rebuttal was worth it. Neither of us sat here, looking at our computer, waiting for someone to make our arguments and rebuttals for us. Because, you know, we don't EXPECT people to FREELY pluck the CONTENT from our heads and do the work for us.

          • How did you not see that? So obvious that micro transactions are another revenue stream for them. It was never about making free content for players. Wake up people.

            • And for that reason. A lot of us are leaving. Destiny will make some of you lazy, addicted and unhealthy. For what? Lol for bungie to stick a fat price tag in your face for 1 mediocre raid.

              • I think that the community is that spoiled, whining, screaming little brat in the grocery store that makes shopping terrible, and Bungie is the parent that really should beat the damn kid like everyone in earshot wishes they would... Then again, it looks like the Halo community is just as bad these days. Maybe videogame communities are just shit now?

                • I'll take "what is guild wars 2 for 500 trebek" I'll take "what is call of duty for 200" I'll take "what is SWtOR for 400" I'll take "what is World of Warcraft for 800" *horns blare* "Time for the double jeopardy round!" Oh right I forgot none of these games do this! Man I must be crazy! But seriously, I digress. Vanilla destiny wasn't "cut up" it was restructured with the new story in mind. Why would we have a dreadnaught in a story that didn't need it yet? "But FPS muh DLC was originally part of the game!" Or so you'd think, when a game changes its story, so does the levels and how the game progresses. Would you still have a space ship back drop when the teacher tells you to do original hamlet instead? No you would not.
but it would be cool AF
When stories change, so does the way things are put in. And remember boys and girls! Rendered areas aren't finished levels!

                  • I love when people reference the kotaku article, the pinnacle of credibility, to say that destiny was cut up to be sold as DLCs. Companies scale back projects as things get closer to release to achieve realistic expectations. The creators of Hyper Light Drifter did it, and no one is complaining about that. These are regular practices and just because parts of something are finished doesn't mean the whole thing is finished. And Bungie had to beg Activision for more time to finish up what they had, not that vanilla was all that good anyway. And OMG! Optional cosmetic micro transactions! The abuse!... Hilarious.

You lost me at "fund future content". They never said that dipshit, kotaku did. Bungie said the money would go to their love events team to find quests and public events like festival of the lost. Op is a complete moron for 1, believing kotaku over bungie, and 2, taking the time to type this crap when this little fact makes everything after the quote useless and wrong.

                        • I'm technically a year two. I simply play because I haven't experienced all the content IN Destiny right now. Ill probably stop until the next expansion when I'm done with it all. I know this games flaws, and I know that Bungie's management is a -blam!-ing crackpot, but I'm still in the honeymoon stage with this game. For all of you people far past the endgame, go ahead, shit on Bungie. I'll take the noob herd to someplace where the shit doesn't smell.

                        • Preah it man. -blam!- bungie, they killed their own game. Stupidest game developers in history. They had a freaking freebie win with this. A guaranteed game of the year for years and years. Somehow, God only know why, but they blew it. They blew it hard. 5 or 6/10 at best. And it's getting worse every day. Every nerf, every economies reworking, every last thing Luke smith's evil finger of death touches just falls to pieces.

You want the honest answer. This game is played mostly by scrubby teens who get their PS4 money cards for Christmas/Birthdays and have no real value of money. They buy the DLCs and pay for stupid emotes, because they put no effort into earning that cash. I work 50+ hours a week, earn well over 6 figures, and have plenty of cash to pay for crappy emotes, but I also have a brain and two eyes. I can clearly see Bungie's intent and as much as I love playing a game for fun, I won't pay a dime for aesthetic crap. People need to realize the more you pay for this crap, the more you set the standard for this to happen more often. You do realize that Bungie will hold the best shaders for the market to be sold to you. If you think they wont... you're stupid. No longer will playing the game give you the best content... you'll have to buy that. And Bungie knows this world is full of teen idiots who know nothing but image and status.
