To start off, I'm not much one for religious and political threads. Tbh, I never liked that Bungie lifted the ban on them and I think they're one of the main reasons this forum is such a shell of its former. However I'm currently doing a research paper for my government class an I figured I'd ask your opinion on my subject:
Article 12 of the U.S. Constitution, the Electoral College
Are you for or against it, and if so, why?
Also please do try your best to not turn this thread into a political shit-slinging competition.

I want it gone. It was useful in the time where communication could take months, but it is no longer useful. It alters our votes and can sway elections as a result (Bush vs Gore for instance). Because of where I live, my vote NEVER matters. Our elections should be strictly popularity votes, to lessen the possibility of rigged elections.
-
It was only useful when we had a nation of uneducated fools...
wait a minute
-
I am pro electoral college. It protects against tyranny of the majority
-
Combined with gerrymandering, it essentially kills the idea that America is a democratic nation.
-
Religion was banned? The world of OffTopic must have been so desolate back then.

The votes from the people don't matter with electoral college
-
The Electoral College is broken. Each state votes differently, some give the Electoral votes proportionally to each candidate, and some give all the votes to the candidate with the fifty-one percent vote. California, for example, is a zero sum game. This means that whomever receives the majority of the votes in the popular election will receive all of the state's representation. This essentially erases the entire Midwest's representation. Also, the electoral college voters can choose to vote out of their own preference rather than for their constituents. It is a broken system.
-
Any system where a canidate can win the popular vote and still lose an election is not truly democracy.
-
Its a terrible system that leaves many without proper representation.
-
Looks like someone is learning this in their 12th grade gov class

Изменено (Britton): 4/19/2016 9:25:08 AMWe have the technology to just move to a popular vote. Part of the reason for the electoral college was reporting the results of an election was difficult back in the day.

The electoral college undermines democracy; our government of the people, for the people, should have all elected officials, including our president, be elected directly in free and democratic elections.
-
For it. The people must influence but never decide.

That depends

never heard of an electrical collage, is that when you put together a bunch of pictures of electric type Pokemon on a piece of paper?
-
Against. It's an old system that was useful 200 years ago when transportation was difficult, but it has no place in the age of the Internet.
-
At this point in time, I no longer see the purpose in having the electoral college.
