So we all remember Oryx right? Big guy, had turtle feet, has taken entire worlds.
Well today I got bored and wanted to look for any kind of secret in regicide. Couldn't find much in-game so I tried something else. I went to the Ishtar collective:
http://www.ishtar-collective.net
Using their handy new transcript system I found out Oryx says something awfully....Strange.
*ORYX TRANSPORTS HIMSELF AND THE GUARDIAN*
ORYX: The Darkness is a gift. Let my will set you free.
So this is the point when we get teleported into that weird shadow realm and Oryx offers us something. He lightly offers freedom.
For those of you who don't know what Oryx does when he takes something I'd suggest you go read any one of the taken enemy cards.
Oryx points out his prey's fears and tell them there is a knife in front of the that is shaped like [a solution to their fear]
Taken knight card:
You are a Knight. Ancient warrior elite. Dreadful backbone of the Hive. You have scarred entire worlds.
You have been taken.
Set down your sword. Put down your boomer. The fight is not yet begun. True immortality awaits you.
What vows compel you? What drives you down the long centuries?
You fear death. Even as you visit nothingness on your foes, even as you gather tribute from your acolytes, you know that one day your strength will be outmatched. And your centuries of slaughter will end. So you practice your guard: you call up walls to protect you.
You betray the sword logic. You compromise the totality of your violence. Why protect your ground when you could take the enemy’s?
You need to make your guard into a weapon.
There is a knife for you. It is shaped like [no more fear].
Take up the knife. Hide no more. Take your new shape.
When we get teleported I think that was a last ditch effort to try and take us as he's likely never had a chance like this before. He also tries to to scare us by saying things like
your traveler's light cannot reach you here

what you call the darkness is the end of your evolution.
Then once you get teleported he offers you freedom. If he wasn't angry about you killing his son, he might have given you the more traditional "you are taken" speech.
I believe those last few moments you spent with Oryx was him trying to take you and that place is the place things go when they're taken. It's also possible that he tries to take you in the raid as well as when he teleports you to the fight the shade you end up inside that giant blight.
So, what do you think? Was Oryx trying to take us? Yay or nay.
Edit: just to clarify, I don't believe Oryx could actually take us. I do, however, believe that he tried to take us. He's probably never tried to take a guardian before as he was never presented with one in times before.

I think oryx only takes those which need an escape I.e cabal are slaves to their emperor. Forced to fight for either victory or until death. Vex foresaw their defeat maybe being taken was a way out? Fallen have no world and lost their traveler. They have limited resources and are killed by the guardians. Vex. Cabal and hive regularly. Hive that are taken seek more power. As power is what drives the hive. For the guardians freedom of obligation is most likely what oryx tried to use however the guardians are to resilient for oyrx and most only seek knowledge rather than freedom. I'd say guardians looking for freedom could be taken.

Изменено (HoldayInCambodiA): 6/6/2016 2:16:12 AMIt could be argued that actually, the entire point in the expansion is that because of the sword logic, Oryx must fight, defeat, and take us, if he is truly to be the most powerful being in the universe, and thus worthy of the title the taken king. He wants us to demonstrate our worth to him, he taunts us onwards throughout the campaign. Laughing as he dies in regicide, knowing that he will face and defeat us in the raid, as that is where he is most powerful, and knowing that we will know how to challenge him for the throne in the way of the hive. When we defeat him, then we don't then take the mantle of the king, Tolland is angry that he has taught us the sword logic, ascended us, and showed us how to challenge the king, and then we just walk away, leaving a power vacuum.

I actually wrote a card-thing a long time ago for Taken guardians
You are a guardian. One of the warriors of the light. You were a Vault raider; Godslayer; Kellbreaker; Legendary. You were the strongest amongst your kind, and braved what those who came before you could not. You have been taken. Put your gun down. Drop your sword. Stop trying to give form to your light. Your legend is completed. You have become legend. Why is it that you fight? Who commands you? What gives you a reason to kill what you don't understand? You are submissive. You were a husk, without a reason for your second chance. You were at peace. You don't even understand what you are doing here, or why you came back. You know nothing of the world you try to protect; of the things you deem a threat. You need comprehension. There is a knife for you. It is shaped like [Truth]. You will understand. You will know the truths of the world you were brought back into. Accept this as your new fate. This war was all that you had. It's time to pick a side. Take up the knife. Discover your truth. Take your new shape
Correct. Another good example of this is when you're torn between dimensions in the raid, you are taken essentially, but the light is fighting back. Hence why you return to the normal world when you grab that spark of light.
-
This makes alot of sense. The only thing that bothers me about this theory is that "supposedly" Guardians are dead, and that Oryx has the ability to only "take" living organisms (Which explains why Vex Harpies and Fallen Servitors are always normal because they are machines). However, this makes sense to me because I always tried to figure out what that dimension that we got transported was. In the Oryx raid, when we fight the Shade of Oryx, that dimension is called the Darkness Dimension. So if this is the same dimension that we are teleported to in the Oryx fight on Regicide (because there is no debuff or anything to signify) then this may be true and Oryx possibly new how to Take us, but because we were not living beings, he had to physically fight us to possibly supress our Light (Which is confirmed by his statement "The Travelers light cant reach you here") in order to take us. did i just rant a little and agree with you overall?
-
He gives "gifts" to all the types of taken enemies except for the taken vex My best guess as to why is because of a minor hate for vex specially. A friend reminded me of something the Exo stranger said along the lines of "...something so evil that other evil despises it"
but that's just a theory
-
Yeah I kinda pieced that together
-
You know what I'm just gonna put down the one I wrote for a taken warlock You are a Warlock. Intuitive. Keeper of great knowledge. Vault of hidden secrets. You have been taken. Focus now. There is nothing here to learn but the last truth. Do not worry it is a simple lesson. There will be plenty more secrets to learn later. What purpose drives you? What call beckons you? To learn. To tear away the falsehoods until only truth remains. That is your victory. But there are so many distractions. There are enemies all around who break your concentration. Those who cannot comprehend your sacrifice to find and behold. If they will not abate, then you must erase them. There is a knife for you. Its shape is [ontology]. Take up up the knife. Cut away the distractions. Cut until there is nothing but truth

If oryx really wanted to take me all he needed was to roll up in his van , offer me free candy.
-
tbh oryx sounds like a nice guy. wouldn't actually mind joining him

Изменено (SwedishBass): 6/5/2016 8:11:25 PMWhat I don't understand is why Taken Vandals have a Ward of Dawn-like ability. It clearly is exactly a Defender's WoD, yet the lore states that guardians can't be taken. Did they simply copy the ability from seeing us fight, as they took their new, Taken form?
-
I have always thought it was that he has been trying to take us. But A) we were too alive at most times (look at the mission where primus is being attacked by wizards, they are weakening him to let him be taken) and B our light is an anchor. And even if the anchor is small compared to the ocean's current, it can hold us firm. Our body can be pulled, but out light holds firm
-
I was thinking the same thing the other day
-
The bad man tried to touch me mommy
-
I think this is plausible. For people who say no because guardians are dead, then explain desolate gear, dreadfang and taken will. The shotgun isn't living but it's taken
-
Considering he can only take things with light, He might have been trying to.
-
I'd rather die than be turned into a pile of space goo.
-
Those "scare" quotes could even be him pointing out our insecurity against what we as Guardians think is Darkness. I say yay
-
Quite likely. Also one of his abilities is to drain your light. But because we're guardians our light regens so the best he can do is temporarily drain us.
-
When first see him on phobos, he says 'give your will to me!' I definitely think he wanted to take us.

My Guardian has no weaknesses, so when Oryx offered to take me, my Hunter was all, "GTFO bruh, git gud, and take dees." This thread is a good read - "en-thrall-ing."
