What do you guys think? I know PUBG is dominating steam but if we compare playerbase across the board, is Fortnite going to eventually kill PUBG? I don't want to argue, I want to discuss. Compare the 2 studios behind each game and the updates/content they each recieve on a weekly basis and decide for yourself!

The funniest thing is Epic spent 5 years developing Fortnite and then sold it out for a knockoff of another game that will always be more popular and leaving the original core Fortnite game a ghost town. It’s to bad because it was pretty good and original

Also for me... the phenomenon behind pubg was how accessible it was, I would compare the two companies similarily to how I would between apple and android around the first iphone release. Fortnight had (prior to pubg) almost no mass appeal, it's constituents resembles previous survival craft games in the last 5-7 years, Fortnight does nothing genuinely new or innovative conceptually gameplay-wise. It's recent rise in popularity has solely been the result of the parallel conversation people are having about a particular battleground game. While the team behind fortnight are commendable in their technical and artistic achievements, simply their conception in video game designs are derivative of the trends in video games as they continue to observe other video games. PlayerUnknown's game on the other hand, lacks the substantive look and feel of larger game developers. The fact that this game has reached as many people as it did is surprising, but the game had an affect that Kony did in 2012, as in it made people want to talk about it. The most important factor in making people talk about this game is in it's quintessential game design, conceptually it's deterministic and universal, pubg's biggest contribution to gaming was in it's philosophy of game design: it can only end one way. Going back to my reference of apple and android... I was talking about Android seemingly imitating the iPhone UI in their phones. But since apple was the first to introduce touchscreens to the general consumer at that scale, they simply arrived to the design in the same way that everyone else would have eventually. I wouldn't fault Fortnight as much if it wasn't for the fact that it clearly follows specific design paths so blatantly, it would have been possible to come up with a new design path on a battle royal style game independent of pubg. But they didn't, either because they lack the ability to create new ideas that follow their original design choice in fortnight, or they were simply emulating other game designs in a palatable package. TL:DR: Fortnight copies other games, Pubg had one good idea.

I don’t think so, and PUBG is supposed to be making the move to consoles, so it’ll get a refresher when that happens
-
Nope, I’ve played both and they are two very different experiences. Pubg is much slower paced and tactical. This makes it very slow paced and makes matches longer. While fortnight is very aggressive and fast paced. Also it’s designed to be a little silly and fun instead of completely serious. The 2 experiences are completely different and will find 2 different fan bases.

No the games are different in a few distinct small but impactful ways. One is a more realistic take on the graphics and gameplay while the other is more laid back and fun cartoony. One has vehicles one doesn’t.
-
...no Why is this a question?
-
Fortnite is too cartoony for me. I feel silly just watching someone's stream lol
-
More people download free games and Fortnite is on the PS4 whereas PUBG is not.
-
Tbh I'm not a fan of either. Not my type of games really.
-
Fortnite is ten times the fun, way less campy and not so stupidly loot based and it's free so I don't see how there's a competition. If you can like third person and take your head out of your ass the choice is obvious.
-
First off, a relatively small studio has sold 30 million copies, most digital, at $30 a piece so financially the dev is fine. It’s selling like hot cakes on Xbox.
-
i dont see how.... i've never played either, but when i watch fortnite videos all i can think is: wow.... this combat sucks... everybody just does the lame little jumps all the time to prolong a fight that seems like it hardly has any skill involved.... but again... thats just from a watcher perspective. PUBG seems like it takes more skill and no pointless base building. Correct me if i am wrong.
-
I think they both are lame, so.....maybe they kill each other?
-
They both handle differently and have different mechanics to them. Apples are not going to kill oranges.
-
Na plenty of room for both games. Plus fortnite is fun, but it's pretty basic in that game mode. PUBG has more depth as far as weapons and customization goes. PUBG is a better battle royale game IMO and I think a ton of people will continue to play it. Especially once they fix the Xbox version, and hopefully bring it to ps4 eventually as well.
-
I don't think it is going to kill PUBG, but I think it is going to hurt it quite a bit. But it isn't going to kill it. While fortnite is free, better looking, and runs smoother*, PUBG has slightly better gameplay. *(Seriously, on my computer I run Fortnite at max graphics at 60 fps, while PUBG runs at 30 FPS at the lowest settings. I feel like that is possibly the biggest threat to PUBG, if the common player base, who can't run PUBG that well, quit, then streamers are going to quit, because they can't get games, and then the game dies.)
-
Fortnite is too cartoony and pubg is not which is what I like about pubg. But fortnite however, you can grab a shotgun, run around without worrying about what armor you have on or how many medkits you have.
-
No. PUBG is a juggernaut of popularity. I’m really not that familiar with Fortnite(not a fan of the base building idea, or the art style), but whatever success it has/will have can easily coincide with PUBG.
-
I dunno about Xbox but the stupid chinese will kill it on pc.
-
If we're going by battle Royale (cause it's the only reason Fortnite is even relevant) then it's completely open for debate. PUBG has the bigger fanbase even though it's restricted on less platforms. Furthermore it actually costs money where as Fortnite doesn't. As for which would kill the other: I don't think it'll happen nor is it necessary. I'd much rather both do their own thing as they offer different things. As others stated, PUBG is the more realistic game with more weapon options and such. Fortnite is the more arcade style game with building being one of its main draws. Fortnite is also vastly superior technicality wise, PUBG is a mess on that and it doesn't optimize well. It's the main reason I don't play it as much as I do Fortnite.
-
They hit a record 3m concurrent players in pubg recently, pubg’s design is being ripped across multiple knock-off’s, and I would argue that it’s only because of pubg that anyone is still talking about fortnight. That said... if you want to argue which one is better, hope you have Kleenex, cause you’re only jerking yourself off.
-
theyre way too different. fortnite is pretty arcady and faster paced than pubg id say. when the shooting mechanics are fixed id say its a solid game. but i cant really forget how shitty the actual fortnite game was and that they saved it by joining the BR hype thats been going on since pubg. pubg is a more realistic approach to the genre but it has quite a way of optimization still ahead. both will be okay and have decent playerbases.
-
I prefer the realism of PUBG. I can't take the art style Fortnite, it's just so cartoonish and awkward.
-
Изменено (FreakinMitchell): 1/3/2018 12:11:13 PMI prefer PUBG. Fortnight is too cartoony.
-
Изменено (eviltedi): 1/3/2018 10:49:47 AMI don't think so. The video states PUBG can't improve. I don't get that comment. Despite it being free I never bothered with Fortnight. I got PUBG though, and it's a really good game. It has issues on Xbox just now, but it's getting better. All my friends that played Fortnight now play PUBG, I think I'll be playing it for the foreseeable future. They're also two different games.
