7 has been Bungie’s magic number for forever. Exos have the number designations. It’s speculated that the number represents memory wipes.
In Cayde’s case, I don’t think it’s memory wipes. He remembers Ace. It could be a cumulative total of consciousness swapping to new chassis.
Cayde is also the only main character with substance and is, hands down, a fan favorite. He works as a solid pull for players to become emotionally invested in the story.
He’s also a fitting way to show progress by retrieving his core and putting him into a new body, whereby he goes by Cayde-7.
If it doesn’t go down like that, Bungie missed a HUGE opportunity and it may signal that all is not well with the leadership of our favorite dev house.
I don’t think that’s the case. I’m looking forward to Forsaken. Watch and see. Cayde-7 will be a thing.

I want to say this is a great idea but first replacing the body will not make him Cayde 7. He was shot in the head and I suspect like with people and most objects with a core processor (I am assuming here to call it that) a bullet right through it makes it dead. He is dead. I hate saying it but without light, another ghost able to revive him, Cayde will remain dead. If bungie were to bring him back they would have to do so very carefully and very meaningfully. Based on the lore Cayde is tied to Clovis Bray, the Exo program, the Vex, and Rasputin. Bungie would need to work with the lore very carefully. All of these things have to tie together, and I just don't know if bungie can do it in a way to make it more powerful than what they did just now. What I want to know is how does this affect the game, characters and vanguard in the long run, how will this work in the story? I am all for him returning but it has to be done right.
