One of the things that Bungie usually does great is come up with awesome ideas, and make good on it later. The Marathon trilogy was/ is one of the first games Bungie created and, like iD Software's DOOM, was an old-school first-person shooter where you basically kill aliens and get awesome weapons. Why am I comparing it to DOOM you may ask. Recently, as many of you know, there was a re-release of DOOM which ran amazing graphics at 60fps on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. I feel that the Marathon trilogy should deserve the same treatment. Have updated graphics, new game mechanics, and have them tell the story they envisioned with these new graphics. DOOM had a huge following and it was wildly successful. With Bungie's massive fan-base and talented employees, it would be massive. I would really love to see Bungie make a remastered Marathon game. Greatness ensues.

Amen to that! I'd give my left....arm to get the trilogy (I'd happily settle for the original if nothing else) on Xbox one.

It would need to be a remake instead of a remaster. Jumping alone changes the maps significantly. But, I have been pining for years for a remake, while staying faithful to the established story and lore. Hearing Durandal laugh while firing orbital bombardments would be epic.

DOOM 2016 was more of a reboot than a re-release or remastering. Some even consider it a sequel to the classic DOOMs. A remastering doesn't change the core of the game or its mechanics, and really only improves on what's there. Which would be a fine thing for Marathon. But DOOM 2016 is probably not the best comparison to a potential remastered Marathon.

Marathon 4 >>>>>>>> I'd prefer a reboot of the series rather than a remaster but I'd take either.

Edited by Kankunation: 9/12/2016 5:43:40 PMMaybe. However, same as doom, a true remaster wouldn't work in this day and age. A full remake or even a reboot would probably be needed for it to be successful.

There was a clause in the original Activision contract to let Bungie dedicate 5% of their workforce to doing a Marathon remake/remaster. Frankly if they just remade the maps and weapons with Destiny's engine, that'd satisfy me for another 20 years. It's awesome enough just replaying them on Aleph One.
-
Only if it's done without Activision.
-
A reboot would be cool.
-
Frog blast the vent core!
-
Marathon remake? Yes, please. With Cate Blanchette as Leela, Liam Neeson as Tycho, and John Malkovich as Durandal.
-
You can get the entire original series for free (legally) btw. There are even graphical enhancements and plenty of add-ons available.

I never got to play the trilogy. Always wanted to. I would love to try it out on the Xbox but with the original mechanics.
-
It would be cool but Bungie is too busy with Destiny.
-
Couldn't get into Durandal XBLA, but hey, maybe a better looking version.
-
Yeah maybe they can finally make it have good netcode I love playing it when I join in FCAW's sessions, but god damn it feels like any other game would still play better from the Curiosity Rover's connection

DOOM was a reboot, a remaster usually implies slapping a fresh coat of paint (or HD textures) to the existing game. And I don't think Bungie would bother fully remaking the games when they've got a giant IP to work on.
