Trace Rifles and Exotic TR’s need a buff

All trace rifles are arguably bad or just not worth putting on over weapon cause theres no appeal to put them on.So this is what traces need from general buff to exotic changes that makes sense Trace rifles take almost/or a full magazine to do what other weapons do in half their magazine such as killing high health targets such as elites or some champions. It would be nice to see traces in the meta or viable at least once so ill let bungie do the number math on what percentage of an increase traces need but im thinking 10% flat buff to all trace rifles in pve Another 5-10% vs elites and bosses (excluding divinity) (Ager’s Scepter)so honestly the catalyst is good and all but the fact it drains the super or the fact you have to get your super in general before using it is kinda meh. With changes and general ui additions such as weapon fill gauges for perks to activate agers should get a gauge that fills up off of stasis final blows and more off powerful combatants to long press into its overpowered form (Coldheart) even though this weapon is firing at subzero temperature its doing nothing related to the freezing cold its giving off. So why not make this a dual synergy weapon off its trait (longest winter) which instead of generating ionic traces while in its boosted damage state slows and freezes targets after picking up an ionic trace and ionic traces fill the magazine from reserves to match the term (longest winter) While (cold fusion) shoots a steady cold arc beam that periodically creates an ionic trace off of rapid kills or damaging a target for a period of time and picking up ionic traces boost this weapons damage (Prometheus) just aint doing well though incandescent was added which is good. Prometheus needs the storch stacks to apply faster instead of prolonged fire cause ammo economy and the fact this will mostly be used as an add clear weapon needs this to be active faster. This also needs the scorch stacks to be applied at a higher stack per hit to get ignitions off on healthier targets more frequently. You should be able to beam some adds and occasionally get an ignition off on a knight or captain tier enemy to get some explosions going (Divinity) is fine where it is, its had its spotlight for long enough if anything (penance) should send lighting strikes down on targets under the effects of judgement long enough and jolting them to tie into it (Ruinous effigy) my favorite meme weapon Evolution (Light attack: make enemies volatile on hit) (Suppressing heavy: increase damage) (Guard: grant devour if target dies to drain keep minor lifesteal) Give this weapon the small bump in dmg from the flat buff and champs it should be fine as the (spacejam come on and slam weapon) (Wave splitter) just needs an additional damage increase by probably 20-30% to be what it should always be known as the dps trace with supercharged battery and harmonic laser

  • I feel like exotic special tracerifles are fine damagewise but I feel like they could use an ammo refund system here some examples Coldheart: collecting traces grand a small to moderate amount of special ammo. Wavesplitter: collecting orbs of power grant small to moderate special ammo Promethius lense: dealing damage with ignition grants small to moderate amount of special ammo( did this one a bit different because its the most ammo consumption trace) Just some examples, I think if they have an ammo refund system it would help out significantly, I don't use legendary trace rifles so I agree with buff ideas. Also just note on you're coldheart idea other have probably mention but stasis isn't ice, also its best to keep it arc cause agers is already a really good trace rifle and it would just be uneeded.

    • I wish Navigator had more utility outside of Strand and Prismatic Hunter, the Catalyst being completely useless without Grapple is disappointing. It would be great if activating it did something similar to Forerunner's Catalyst, turn your next grenade charge into a Grapple. Doesn't really buff it for the Grapple-melee spams that pump out huge damage but makes it much more worthwhile for everything else.

        • Trace rifles will [b]NEVER[/b] be a viable go to option for anything. Why trace when you can auto for no ammo? Damage difference is minimal and easy of use far outweighs the difference.

            • I think their biggest problem is bungie considers them a precision weapon, so they expect you will land 100% crits. So that being said, they should buff body damage or remove the recoil completely since it's a Lazer and extend the range to 40-45 meters.

            • As a 600-crucible-kills Divinity enjoyer, I would like to see this thing shine in PvE as well. Give it Jolting Feedback (new perk). It fits the gun very very well and gives it some add clear utility as well. Ruinous Effigy needs some love as well, I would like the ball to receive damage buffs from surges & proc armor mods.

              • IMO I agree but it's just not them Trace Rifles and Glaives need some help especially if you have a special sidearm that clears out everything way faster. 2 expansions later and we still don't have catalyst for the class and heavy exotic glaives.

                  Similarly to what I think Rapid Fire Machine Guns need, I think that Trace Rifles should not be a reloadable weapon and have at least 500 total ammo. This would make them a viable add clear weapon that can tolerate another special weapon. Definitely a slight damage buff against champions and other yellow/orange bar enemies.

                • Their issue is that they are stuck between a rock (infinite ammo primaries) and a hard place (real special ammo weapons). They either need their damage cranked way up (with suitable ammo adjustments for balance) or turned into primaries (with suitable adjustments for balance). Their intended role will always be overshadowed otherwise.

                  • I'd actually like for trace rifles to be completely reworked into a different kind of weapon. Currently they sit on a weird spot between auto rifles and machine guns. Their special ammo add clear role was taken by Rocket Sidearms. One thing i liked about First Descendants (beta) weapons was their trace rifles copy, that felt like a Laser with weird -blam!- recoil. So instead of being this straight and boring laser that tickels enemies, they could be a interesting, hard to control but high damage death ray that also overheats (kinda like the focus rifle from Halo Reach).

                  • Cold heart doesn't fire sub zero temperatures. It shoots a electrical laser. The name comes from the cooling system the weapon has

                  • I think at the very least exotic trace rifles should benefit from the 30% pve dmg to red bar enemies that exotic primaries get

                    • Agers is still my favourite trace. Could it be even stronger? Yes Sir, I'll take every buff. It's freezing capability is unmatched Imho. Other than that I only play traces when a Banshee bounty supposes to do so.

                    • This is gonna seem trivial but they need a sound rework. They don’t feel good to use and I feel like at least part of that is that is their lame humming sound.

                    • Divinity is not fine. It has 0 ad clear capabilities thanks to dealing like half damage, only applies the basic 15% weaken, and the div bubble is only useful for like 2 bosses. It's biggest use is stunning overload champions but that's about it.

                      • The changes all sound good and especially the change to coldheart since its kind of like a classic and forgotten about exotic. Some people have probably never really used it and the ionic trace thing sounds cool now that I'm slowly letting the game build a stasis build that might actually do something for me. I guess there's nothing that can be done about it other than remapping the buttons but ager's scepter's long press can pretty annoying for me. Maybe that's just me though. I do it by accident probably more than anything with any weapon in the game. I would like to see if they could get them into PvP in higher numbers without breaking it. Its been back and forth through several iterations of other weapons and some of those weapons have been about as ridiculous as any trace rifle should be.

                          I used to use Retraced Path (Incandescent/Adaptive Munitions) just because the double special bonus for Heir Apparent ammo with my Ragnhild-D (Triple loader/Elemental Capacitor).

The super drain function is really neat and is what makes it unique. What I’d do instead is have the catalyst refund a portion of the ammo used based on the number of hits while in its super mode. This would make the cost outside of your super almost free and have it function as a super alternative instead of having to dump a lot of your special ammo too. The beam itself isn’t cold. The gun has to be super cooled for the reactor to work and fire the powerful arc beam. It’s not cold, it’s a mini-nuke powered laser. BUT I think you could tie it into stasis on the back end. Maybe for the catalyst, while on high charge damaging combatants slowly grants frost armor. I wouldn’t add that. I’d just have Judgement cage blasts hit adjacent targets and ramp the weapon’s damage slightly for a bit. Maybe +15% for 5 seconds.                           • I like these ideas. They for sure need some kind of Verb to synergies with the element they represent. Even with such a change, they probably need more ammo or higher damage. Many of the older ones especially, feel like they have been left behind, when comparing other weapon classes.
