Hi all!
As part of my Masters dissertation I am conducting a short survey on the impact microtransactions have on the attitudes of players towards the games that contain them.
The survey presents a hypothetical game with a randomized price and microtransaction model, followed by a few questions. There is 8 possible configurations, so it can be taken more than once and should take less that 2 minutes to complete.
If you have a spare couple of minute I would greatly appreciate any interaction with the survey.
Thanks!!

Not inherently a bad thing, but most games incorporate them in a bad way. If everything purchasable can be earned in a direct manner, ie not like overwatch’s loot box per level up, the currency acquired from micro transactions is earnable/tradable. These are the two ways I feel are best with. Another I like less, but am not fully against is only purchasable cosmetic only.

Don't particularly like them. I'd be far happier just paying 2.99 for the item/cosmetic I wanted than paying for a chance. I was pretty "meh" on them until I got burnt hard during an Overwatch event chasing down a skin. Nope. Refuse to pay for them now. Shit, I even find the process of opening them tedious, so I just can't be bothered.

Edited by A Tigerstorm: 8/20/2018 9:17:56 PMIf the micro transactions are handled correctly, I’m perfectly fine with it. But, if it is like how most games today (halo 5, Star Wars Battlefront 2 when it launched, or sometimes even Destiny) i get a little annoyed, even pissy. But if it’s pure pay to win, -blam!- those devs they think it’s a good idea
-
Cancer on the gaming industry, cosmetic and pay-to-win.
-
My opinion?
-blam!- em. And the devs who support em
-
Cosmetic only...its not a hard concept. Titanfall 2 did it perfectly
-
My opinion on microtransactions: fuck off.
-
The only ones who buy micro transactions are 6 year olds with access to their moms credit card.

Unless your game is free there shouldn't be any. And if your game is free it should only be cosmetics. Video games are more profitable now then they have ever been, the extra monetization is just milking players.

I don't really care tbh. As long as it's not clearly pay to win im fine. Or 2ks model in the NBA 2k series. That shits wack af and people don't complain about it enough.
-
I hate loot boxes. I also hate P2W. Thats about it
-
Really really bad. I cant believe they spread so far and got so out of control.

Edited by TexasJedi_705: 8/27/2018 3:52:48 PM-blam!- microtransactions in 60 dollar game period. Free games get a pass, unless they're poorly implemented, pay to win, or contain lootboxes.

Other than purely cosmetic stuff, can’t say I’m a fan.
-
If the game has free content, then cosmetics are fine but ONLY if there's free content. No paid DLC
-
Edited by Mercury: 8/25/2018 4:18:12 AMIt’s fine as long as it’s strictly cosmetic and supports the game by funding new content
-
If it’s like how anthem is said to be done then yeah that’s fine anything else it’s a shitstorm
-
If it's only cosmetic and I can earn them without paying in fine with it
-
I'm fine with it, if you don't wanna buy don't buy. Simples
-
Done. Hope it helps. Good luck with your dissertation!

Edited by RileyArby: 8/22/2018 5:17:34 PMIf its only cosmetics and you can get those cosmetics from gameplay i dont mind them Also i prefer them to not be loot boxes

the war is long from over but we must never stop pushing until those degrading abominations are removed from our beloved franchises http://imgur.com/gallery/xC9WwyX I recomend watching YongYea on youtube for the latest in this pursuit..

So long as the microtransactions are cosmetic and not marketed heavily then i am fine with them. As for DLC if it contains huge amounts of content then yes but the prices for them are way too high in this current day.

I say if its for straight out buying cosmetic only. Its fine. I well explain a one of the better examples. Warframe does it good. you could pay for a weapon and a Tato/Potato as we WFers call them plus slot , the slot costs 6 plat per for a weapon and 10 for a warframe. The Potato is 20 a pop for both warframe and weapon. That's 26 plat or 36 included in the price. anyway, most warframes know that buying almost every weapon ( Hema is a iffy thing, because of the ludicrous grind for a decentish weapon. but people wanted a huge grind for vets and well, they got it.) is a Scam because of the outrageous prices you need to pay for some weapon or warframe, or the its not even worth buying it for plat weapons. Then you get in to the what most Warframers get in to when using plat (about 50% or so maybe 40% because of prime parts and mods and some faction weapons that are normally uber cheap for some of them being pretty good) aka Fashion frame. The mindset of Fashion framers , me being one of them is , we go to look good while killing those AI, and such. That is partly where Warframe gets a good deal of its income, the other part is people who are lazy and do not want to grind. This type of model is good, a bit aggressive but just barely. if they took out the need for slots then it would be a lot better. Some people would say that model is pay to win. I say not really. WHile you bypass part of the grind and get to ignore the MR rank requirement, you do not get to ignore the EXP grind and the need for weapon/warframe mods, which take time or plat to get, even buying it from another player doesn't mean you get it at full power. Warframe has a player driven economy, you can trade plat with rando42 or bestfriend3. For nothing or for something you want that is tradeable. But lets say you get a Prime part. you still have to grind for it. Because unless you want to spend ludicrous amount of cash/plat it is NOT worth buying resources. Warframe is indeed aggressive with MicroTrans but its partly that to get people who are stupid to pay for certain things because they are lazy, or well uber fresh people who do not know better.

IMO, they shouldn't be in paid games unless they are cosmetic and all future content is free, other than that keep them out of any game that has an entrance fee. No loot boxes regardless if it's free or not.

What are you getting your masters in?
