According to Bungie, Rise of Iron will go live at server reset time on Tuesday, which most Destiny players know as the time when weekly activities roll over at a new week. That means we can start playing Rise of Iron on Sept. 20th at 2 a.m. Pacific Time, 5 a.m. Eastern, or 9:00 UTC for those that prefer an international designation. So stockpile your bounties, collect some engrams and wait to begin the rest of the climb up towards the new light cap. Bungie has carved this little part of September out for itself over the past two years, and I like it: we’ve got a busy fall ahead of us, but right now it’s Destiny time.
Rise of Iron, with its somewhat funereal tone, also marks the last year of Destiny 1. Destiny 2 comes our way next year, and it promises to be something of a fresh start, though to what degree is still unclear. Bungie learned a lot of hard lessons about how to make a game like this in both Year 1 and 2, and so I hope this thing goes out in style. Rise of Iron revolves around the legend of the Iron Lords, Guardians of a time long past who perished containing a plague that threatened all of mankind but seems to be causing trouble again. It promises to be a snowy, brutal time out there in the Plaguelands.
