I want an option to turn off aim assist. It was an option in most early FPS games, especially on console and I want to see it here. This is mostly stemming from its frustrating implementation in bows and swords. Third-person targeting in D2 has been an issue for years and I know that cannot be solved easily. But for guns and bows, I would like to see this change.
The reason behind the bow problem is due to the bending of the arrow toward the enemy in common circumstances. Specifically, when there is cover at a distance between you and an enemy that obscures most of the enemy spare a small part. This issue results in you being able to see the body part, say the top half of the head or an arm, but not being able to shoot it as the aim assist for the bow forces the arrow towards the center mass of the enemy, which is behind cover. This issue results in multiple shots that should hit the arm instead bending straight into a wall when I have a clear shot into the enemy hitbox that would've landed if the weapon were hitscan. Even then, when I try to compensate for the bending it can be fruitless, as depending on the distance from the target, the angle that would cause the shot to bend enough into the exposed part of the enemy can be so small that the aim assist would deactivate and would miss completely if I tried.
That's a lot of aim assist on bows. Most people would probably not turn off aim assist though and without any at all its hard to say you'd be hitting your targets while taking flinch and other damage. It would be interesting to see it if it happened but aim assist in this game is so much more than just helping people hit their shots.
