What it does:
Allows you to extract damage types (element) and weapon frames, and place them on to other legendary weapons in the same category.
For example, one could extract both the Arc element, and the 140 RPM Adaptive Frame of Nation of Beasts (or either, individually), and place them on Word of Crota.
How it works:
Visit and interact with the Relic Conduit in the Enclave.
Within a "hub" menu, an "Extract Essence" option is present on the left side, which, when opened, displays a preview of any eligible Enhanceable weapons the player has discovered, and any unlocked Craftable weapon patterns (weapon does not have to be currently crafted or present in player inventory).
When selecting an eligible weapon (at least one Imprint is not owned), a sub-menu opens, with selectable options to extract the weapon Element and/or weapon Frame, and an "Extract Essence" button to complete the action (similar to how Crafting works).
Upon extraction, the Imprint of the weapon's Frame and/or Element will become unlocked and available to use on other weapons.
Back within the hub menu, an "Imprint Essence" menu is available on the right, allowing players to implant any extracted Essences onto other Craftable or Enhanceable weapons of the same type (weapon must be in player inventory).
When selecting the weapon, players will see a typical intrinsic Frame selection option, though only Imprints of differing weapon frames will appear.
Beside it, a perk column dedicated to Element selection is present, though only presently available Element options will appear (ie, cannot craft Stasis energy weapons).
Enhanced stat bonuses ("Masterworks") can be selected at the main Relic, though any installed bonuses will carry over.
Caveats:
• Imprinted Frames will transfer stats of similar frames, as to not cause imbalance (cannot create an Aggressive Shotgun with Lightweight stat bonuses for example)
• Elemental debuff perks such as Incandescent, Slice, or Voltshot will be replaced by their counterparts, based on the new element (imprinting a Void weapon causes Voltshot to become Destabilizing Rounds), though perk enhancement will be retained
• Non-matching elemental utility perks will not be replaced, and some of their functionality will be changed, though their effects may be weakened
• Matching utility perks would also be available through Crafting, if desired (an Arc weapon changed to Solar would have access to both Heal Clip and Eddy Current, considering that the first perk was present on the original weapon)
- Eddy Current gains maximum effect through any matching elemental buff applied to the player
- Health Clip is not shared with allies
- Repulsor Brace activates when defeating targets affected by debuffs matching the weapon's element but the Overshield it provides does not receive the 50% resistance
Purpose/Other:
This opens up the sandbox to a lot more diversity, seeing as we could make up for the lack of different weapons with certain frames and elements in some categories; Instead of having to wait for there to be another, more relevant Rapid-Fire Stasis Machine Gun for example, we could just make one ourselves.
We already know that the transfer of Frames is possible thanks to "The Craftening", and I don't imagine that swapping the element is much more difficult.
Another benefit to this could be to revitalize older Craftable weapons by giving them slightly more relevant utility perks.
It might also be worth considering allowing perk Imprints, such as Explosive Light on a Double-Fire Breach Grenade Launcher, or even just for granting old Craftable weapons more relevant perks.
Another fun idea (though a bit less balanced): the ability to apply cross-class Imprints to weapons of the same ammo type, such as allowing 900 RPM SMG frames to transfer to Auto Rifles, or even some Pulse frames onto Hand Cannons.
Cost:
I'm not sure what specific costs would be suitable, but probably just some of the generic Crafting stuff: Alloys, Prisms, Cores, and/or Glimmer.
I would say add a Deepsight Harmonizer to the Frame extraction, and perhaps something like Upgrade Modules to swap Elements.
To aid this, give the Relic itself, or another Vendor like Fynch or Ikora a selection of seasonal bounties that grant a Harmonizer upon completion, with a seasonal cap of 5 completed bounties.
At the beginning of Destiny 2 we had elemental charge mods that we could socket in our energy and heavy weapons and change their damage types. Don’t make it too complex and keep it nice and simple for everyone; just have “energy converter” mods that allow for the weapon to use a different damage type than usual but make them consumables so you have to care about using them and they could only be used on weapons that can’t be shaped with elemental intrinsics like immolation or destabilizing rounds so as to not cause craftening madness. I would pay five ascendant materials for one of those.
