I'm a Christian who's generally in support of the equal rights movement, and therefore, I had to deal with all of the silly posts on facebook this morning, about "boycotting that leftist Starbucks". I don't really think any of you really care about my opinion, but as a creative writer, I need to vent now and again. This time I'm gonna just right out my thoughts, emotions, and musings about homosexuality, Christianity, and Starbucks. Some of you aren't believers in God, and/or not Christians, and can't relate to my writings, or you may even be offended. I'm not really looking for a debate. I'm looking for a good, rational discussion, with believers of the same faith as myself. :) I'm for equal rights for a lot of reasons. The main on being, [i]true marriage is not under the state, it's under God.[/i] Homosexuality has been legal in France since the 1800's. It's legal all over the world, and to suggest that "the world is getting worse and worse, and we can't let it get any worse by allowing gay marriage to be legalized" is ignorant of the facts that: 1) America is not the world, and if you have a quest to have gay marriage prevented, you've already failed, 2) Simply getting married does not imply sexual relations. I feel like it's mostly just a product of homophobia that causes people to want to prevent it. Also, most conservative Christians are for capitalism why? They'll generally tell you, "because it is morally unacceptable for a government to force its people to spend their money a way they don't want to." I wholeheartedly agree. But where is this attitude in the topic of homosexuality? You're hypocritically forcing other people to do what you want. Regardless of America's "Christian heritage", it was founded by Christians who wanted to create a secular nation, where anyone can do anything that makes them happy, as long as it doesn't keep other people from doing what makes [i]them[/i] happy. I think you can be a homosexual and a Christian as well. The main sin is to pervert God's original gift of sex. There aren't any scriptures that explicitly say attraction to the same sex is wrong. In fact, Jesus Christ himself makes mention of "those who give up love for the kingdom of heaven" in Matthew 10. Now, as far as marriage goes, I think it might be pretty difficult to marry someone and not have sex, and I think coming to terms with the fact that God is your true love(not a man or a woman), is a reality that all Christians must face -- straight or gay. As far as boycotting Starbucks, I think that's incredibly silly. Where were these boycotters when Nike was discovered to have incredibly harsh sweatshops? Or when other big company cruelties have been revealed where the company's were committing horrendous atrocities against human beings? But, when people start paying for human rights involving homosexuality, it's time to start boycotts and campaigns? This is feeling like homophobia again. You purchase clothing, food, cars, buy music, etc. that will eventually end up in the hands of someone you disagree with. I personally recommend doing your research before you become loyal to a company, but if you don't do it in all of your purchases, why are you doing it in a coffee company that supports homosexuality? There are far greater causes to campaign against. Anyways, this is just where I'm at currently. You can challenge anything you want, as long as [i]you yourself[/i] are as willing to admit that you're wrong as I am. Sorry if this comes across as a bit of a blog. I don't mean for it to. I'm trying to introduce my opinion to other people of my beliefs, for the edification of this group on the internet. :) This is all a bit scattered and poorly done. I'll check in after work to see what the fruits of this post are. Toodloo.
