Community.
Hah.
Seems to be something thrown around a lot within Bungie, by both the actual community and Bungie itself. But let's be honest about it. Is there really a solid community on B.net ever since the update? Go on the mains and ask anyone and they will almost 100% of the times say no, that it has fallen apart. Ask Bungie and what would they say? 'We have a great solid community that backs us.' While it might be true in regards to the boat load of 12 year olds blindly on the #Destiny ship, that sure as hell does not apply to the rest of the forums. While I know there are members who simply don't care about what Bungie's community was (either because they are new here, aren't regular members or never invested themself in this place as much as others), I'll say that it's the great majority that are discontent with the state of the website.
Now I know some of you, including some people at Bungie will react 'Shit, not this Hipi kid again with this stuff'. What do you want me to do? The Community Bungie 'loves' so much is tearing itself apart in front of them. I understand they have a game to deliver, and trust me there is nothing more I want then to see it finished as perfect as possible, but is it really worth trashing the online community that formed? All the veterans that have been here for years? I myself have been here for almost 6 years now, and there are few others that are even older here. All those members that stuck through the 'Dark Times' of Bungie going under at the start of Destiny and countless other times? We held on. We held on for you.
What do we get in return? A complete site update. I'm not going to say it was totally worthless because it was not. A lot of minor upgrades were made that the community had been asking for for a while. But that doesn't mean many other of the changes were positive. Many of them were absolutely atrocious for many people here. The one that stands out way above and beyond the rest is what has been done to private groups, which directly affects other aspects of the site.
Nearly the entire concept of Private Groups was nuked. The rules that allowed them to thrive on were softened for the mains while the options to customize and work within them were removed as if on purpose, which on parallel to making groups tank, made the mains go to shit as well. I'm not even going to go into the new banning and muting system and the fact that moderators are basically paper weights on this site, which then again promotes the mains even more going to shit and being a haven for ignorance.
The absurd limited nature of current private groups is nearly unfair. I know some of you will say 'Hey, don't complain, they do all this for free for all of us, they don't have to' or among those lines, but really? If they praise and talk so much of the community they love, then why leave it in shit? It's not like it's a couple of members that hold this belief and they have not been vocal about it. It almost simply comes down to the fact that Bungie doesn't care. If they did they would at least address these issues with an actual answer unlike Achronos telling me 'Sometimes you have to play the waiting game'. I mean seriously?
Is 'playing the waiting game' really worth the hundreds of members that have left the site? Quality members that used to call this place home and found them in private groups which have by now long ago tanked? I'm sure a straight answer LAST YEAR saying 'Don't expect an update this year' or something would have helped a lot. Many people have moved off site to form their own forums, such as Halo Archive (which replaces the dead Bungie Universe Forum) or the new MLP Group offsite or even Sapphire which is taking the most serious attempt at doing their own thing. Many of you new people might not know of these groups, but they were the major players in Bungie.net back then. People felt PRIDE to belong to a group. Group Wars would happen because of this. Now some of you might find this foolish, but think what you want. Being part of a group back then was one of the main experiences of this site.
But now? What is the main experience or reason to remain on these forums? None that I can think of. Even my beloved TFS, another of Bungie's major private groups, is on it's death bed. All it's members even admit it and are trying to salvage the group themselves. They're tired of waiting for a promised update which keeps getting postponed, and I don't blame them. Now some of you may be asking why I am talking so much about the forums when this is mainly about Private Groups? Because they are both very much related. A lot of members only stayed on this site thanks to private groups, and posted on the mains from there. Private Groups were their refuge from the mains, but how are they a refuge is they are falling apart and absolutely nothing can be done about it? I've seen too many good people leave the site because of its current state, having no reason to stay as the mains don't offer what the private groups offered.
And from all the new blood arriving, do they replace them? No, not at all. Most of them are trolls, spammers, utter shit posters, alts which add to the decay of the site as a whole, even more so then before. I myself find it hard to return here, something unthinkable a year and a half ago, after 6 years and almost 2 years with TFS. Honestly, the only reason I continue to come here is because of the group, but if it ceases to exist, dozens more of quality members will leave, which will give me no more reason to stay.
This exactly is what has been happening since the site was updated with hundreds of groups. Bungie loves their community but allows it to fall apart without even saying a word about it. Doesn't make much sense, does it? This will be among my last attempts to get what is left of the community's support and make enough noise for Bungie to actually stop turning a blind eye to the state of things.
So please, I beg you, in the name of what Bungie.net once was, please show you're support. No matter what private group you hail from or even if you are new here. Just show some support and speak your mind on this thread.
For an idea of the type of stuff that happened around in B.old, check all these threads out and compilations of threads and recorded history the community was once proud of. Do we even have anything to show to be proud of in this last year?

So what do I want with this thread? Bungie to acknowledge the poor state private groups have been left in. AND, most importantly, give us some solid information on what is happening with private groups. A date we can expect anything to be updated. Give us hope that private groups haven't been forgotten, because right now things are bad. Hopefully they will listen to us and help out their beloved community.

由DeeJ編輯: 1/7/2014 9:41:52 PM(Here's my reading music) I agree that there are problems. I acknowledge your concerns. I just thought I'd let this unfold for a day before I entered the fray. Now that I'm out in the open, let's get into it. Forum Moderation needs improvement, and Achronos and I are working on that right this very moment. No, I won't give you a preview right now, but the Ninjas are itching for us to finish our work. They even helped us hatch those plans. I'll remind you what you wished for once it's granted (heh heh heh heh hah hah hah hah hahhhh). Private Groups need new features, and we have things brewing behind the scenes that will reinvent the social landscape of Bungie.net to truly compliment the playing of Destiny. This website serves the purpose of supporting our community. By its metaphorical nature, a community is a group of people that share a common passion. Our hope is that the game is what will unite you, which is why our planning is tied to Destiny. When you talk to us about Titles, you're really alluding to the act of becoming legend. Right? Who among you is a unique snowflake. This next game of ours is all about that. The closer we get to the game, the more you'll understand that. And, this time, you won't earn your stripes simply by avoiding the Banhammer. We'll expect greater things from you. That's what I have to offer for now. We acknowledge you. We listen to you. We work for you every day. We won't ask you to thank us for that. We do it because, as the OP tended to suggest is not true, Bungie loves its community. We love our community everywhere we find it, be it here or beyond. I will personally ask you to meet us halfway. The idea of community suggests a relationship that is deeper than vendor/customer. It suggests that we're in this together. We've given you the power to control your own experience. By and large, people have insisted they don't want to use them. We've relaxed the rules you've needed to follow to be here, and some of the abuses of that newfound freedom have been embarrassing. This community will be what you want it to be, as much as what we want it to be. We only build these halls. You fill them with noise. If your private group existed to circumvent the rules of this website, it would seem that those rules needed to be changed. We reserve the right to solve the problems as we see them. I see groups here that are still quite vibrant because they provide a unique service to their membership. People are expressing their enthusiasm for a game, and creating art, and writing fiction. The Bungie Community is not suffering a slow death. It's just changing - and rapidly at at that. If you haven't heard by now, the arrival of the Traveler will change everything. I can't tell you that being a member of this community will be easy. I can promise that we feel at Bungie as if we're in this together. More to come...

Just the fact that you here righting a novel means nothing is dying. The internet is echo chamber that waits to here sound if it's own voice. The people that hate Bungie and Destiny live here day and night . But 100 angry jerks on forums does not match millions of people playing everyday

I've been hanging around this site for 10 years and one thing I've noticed is that the "discussion" quality here has dropped dramatically since this latest site update. With the addition of likes and upvoting comments/threads, there is no real reason to even reply. And when people do, it's basically (as someone else said), a Youtube comment section. In b.old, if a thread didn't have "discussion value", it was locked up. Now, it seems like this place thrives on that very same thing it used to avoid.

由Mr Wiskers編輯: 1/7/2015 12:46:16 AMThe Bungie community isn't dead it's just dispersed. We need a hail marry we need raw power we need and dare I say it monsters. Just kidding but the first part is true it didn't die it just got dull around here. We don't need monsters because we already have a group of those somewhere probably in that closet or something I don't know. What we do need is that Halo kind of feeling back. Where people did stupid things in the game or constructive like things. For example one of my most favorite series Red vs. Blue ( if you don't like it I don't know what your doing here, know what just go, leave go find those monsters or something I don't care just go). Or just did stuff because it's there like there's a bridge I wonder if there is something down there (and then you die) but that's beyond the point. I believe that this is what basically made the community either in general or made it better (why not both).
i typed all of this because I am possibly held captive by those monsters help me
由Trad編輯: 5/13/2014 6:10:41 AMY'know, I decided to spend most of my time in other communities for a good while, and I'm genuinely surprised that this place is still running. I'm even more surprised how a community has managed to stay on this site for so long. When you stay away from this place (try your hardest not to type "bu - and then 'enter'" into the url bar out of habit,) for a decent amount of time, and come back to see such a drop in quality of discussions it's staggering. Although there has probably been a drop in quality on here from a few months ago to now, I'm actually referencing when you compare other sites to this one. Actually seeing new topics discussed each day is really something people should get used to. Seeing this site now, I feel like I'm watching a youtube comment section on repeat. I actually think that the funniest thing about it all, is that some of the places I'm referencing outside of b.net, include reddit and 4chan. Select the specific subreddits you want, and all of a sudden things aren't terrible. At least, that's how it used to be. The newer defaults aren't all that terrible, and the atmosphere in most places there just seems to be pretty nice. Specific sections of 4chan provide decent comedy, or just discussion that isn't terrible at its best. Maybe the same could be said here, and I'm just not looking hard enough? This isn't to say that I'm excluded from some problems the community generated or took part in. Looking at some of my past comments I can't help but think about how a conversation between the me now, and the me then would go. I don't know who suffers the most from the community being the way it is, but I hope they have decent luck in the future. I really can't seem to find a reason to come back here other than for a crossing thought similar to "Oh, I wonder how that place is doing at this point." Though reading this thread has given me a bit of a spark of interest. DeeJ's comments kinda strike things right where needed though.
We've given you the power to control your own experience. this is one amazing thread. thank you for posting this well thought out thread. i miss the old bnet a ton. i had it on my laptop open 24/7. i want my blue bar, my title, and groups back. the old site was user friendly, colorful, easy to move around, easy on the eyes, and it just felt nice using. hell i had two drunk chicks in my dorm room a few years ago and the flood was open on my laptop, one walks up to it yells FLOOOOOOOD and pointed at it. then they proceeded to read some topics that people posted on it that nite. this new site is a legit eye sore...my eyes burn from the brightness of the site. everything about it i dislike. old site=best site. i would pay money to have the old site back. thank you again for posting this nice thread. also many of those threads posted above made me laugh over and over and over...the ol 5 knuckle shuffle lol yorkie

You know if we could at least get a reply i would be happy. I feel like in the dark about this now that i look back. Deej, has kept quiet no one has given us any info on what is to come soon. It feels horrible, that for me the only hope is if i can support a Coup which will overhaul this site and make it better. I mean i would be happy if adds were place on here if we could get some of the stuff that we lost for private groups back.

To sum it up, OP moans about Groups, completely blanks the existence of the Flood, and seems to think #Community is best, message end

由Ktan_Dantaktee編輯: 5/14/2014 3:26:17 PMTL;DR But seriously, I skimmed through it and I am fairly sure I understand your post. I do miss the good old days. I haven't even touched Private Groups since the update, so I have no idea how bad they are other than what people tell me. If people think they are bad, then they ARE bad. The customer is always right. Also, Title Bars making a return would be nice in conjunction with a Private Groups revival/fix. Make the site feel less alien to the older members. And another thing; FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD AND MERCIFUL, PLEASE BRING BACK THE CLASSIFIEDS. Without them, most of the forums are just clan recruitment pages with some discussion topics. Its annoying as crap and has bugged me since I returned to the site from my prolonged absence.

It's about time someone said it. My activity has dropped drastically because this isn't a forum anymore. There isn't any discussion being promoted, just the mindless troll shit that finds its way to the top all the time. Not to mention how confusing it is to navigate around the damn place. I can barely figure out how to get to my groups' forums. Things needs to change.
