To my fellow precision kill loving finesse employing guardians. To those who take an almost scary pleasure in the perfect shot. To those who look through the crosshairs and see a bunch of running numbers to add to your score. To those who frown at seeing mere white text damage... might I pose to you a rather angering problem? Or a potential solution?
How many times have you been in the crucible, with your trusty [insert weapon type here] in hand, and see two unsuspecting victims before you.
A smile spreads across your face as you move the [insert description of your applicable reticle] over the head of hapless contributor number 1. Your finger tightens around your trigger and you're already counting your score gain as the gun bucks on your screen, spewing forth your chosen medium of bitter defeat. Your gift to their face.
But NO, as you're pulling the trigger, guardian two has come close enough to your reticle to activate your so-called Aim Assist! Your beautiful shot veers left, harmlessly (assuming it isn't a rocket) pinging off the wall behind your intended target. Who is now immediately alerted to your presence.
Now you are in a fight for dear life, slinging projectiles at your opponents, formerly hapless victims contributing their life's value worth of points to your score. They outnumber you now, since you were so bitterly betrayed by the interface made to help. Made for those without your precision. Tools for the inferior players... like the two you are facing now.
They turn and charge you, bullets screaming across the interim distance as you try desperately to pull off a pair of killing shots and salvage the farce this engagement has become.
(I will here use my own weapon in this scenario, for the purposes of being more descriptive and articulate)
I'm down three rounds into my eight round clip, The Last Word roaring in my hand as I try to duck behind a door frame, two Suros Regimes spitting a seemingly endless stream of (formerly) overpowered bullets at me.
My shots keep missing, the enemy unknowingly close enough to continuously trigger my EVER SO HELPFUL Aim Assist. My nemesis. It keeps trying to settle my sights on the head of my targets, helping me. but it can't seem to decide WHICH guardian it wants to target, they're both equidistant from my reticle now... so it settles for simply splitting the difference. Which is aiming at nothing.
It's also weighting my look stick, so I have to jerk it right or left to get ANY response, which will of course send me 90 degrees or more in that direction once it finally realizes I'm trying to take control of my OWN aiming. So it's danged if you do, danged if you don't. Either I don't move enough, or I move too much... either way that dot isn't going to settle on my opponent's head like I so desperately need it to...
So instead I get gunned down while trying to flee a confrontation that should have been as easy as four shots...
Needless to say, this infuriates me. Muchly.
So now the possible solution?
Would it be possible to get a toggle on/off Aim Assist? I do not need it, I do not want it. It hinders me more than it helps me. In both PVE and PVP, though more in PVP it is an infuriating, hateful beast that steals more kills than FaustR34. In case you don't know him, that's a LOT of stolen kills.
I have faced the above scenario at least a dozen times. I am tired of it. I am able to make my own shots. I am ale to applicably lead a target, or line up my own headshot. I do not need computer algorithms and code to help me.
I also understand that this is not the view of the whole community. Some people have trouble with the fast paced aiming of the crucible. Fine. Let them have their assistance. Let them employ this hateful system, my nemesis; the dreaded Aim Assist. I will gun them down with impunity and a sneer; crushing their broken corpse below my boot heels as I move to destroy their pitiful team (I'm exaggerating, yes).
Just please get it off my own system. I'm not going to take the elitist road and claim its a hack/exploit/cheat/what have you. I just ask that I be allowed to turn it off so it doesn't interfere with my own performance. I will adapt to it being gone. I will re-learn how to play without it. I will survive and play on. I will probably die a lot while I get used to it again, but that I can take with a mere grimace. Perhaps even a colorful sentence enhancer or two, but no more. The blame will once again be squarely on my own shoulders. Not the system betraying me to my painful demise at the hands of my opponents.
Please Bungie. I found the solution to my previous post (Thorn bounty, during which I ran into this a few times). Help those who help themselves please.
