This put me in a very weird position imo.
I played Destiny 1 on xbox and put in hundreds of hours with the controller. My muscle memory is pretty much locked in with Destiny. Then they release the beta on console and PC. I played both the PC and console beta and it is just so much better with the 60+ fps and on my 1440p ultrawide. I use the controller on PC because that is what i'm use to and now i'm being told that it gives an advantage due to aim assist.
Is aim assist on controller really that much better than precision aiming on mouse and keyboard? If a top player had aim assist on controller vs a top player with precision aiming on KB&M who would consistently win? I don't feel like it's giving me any kind of advantage when I play. So should I be shamed for using what I prefer? Do have to stick with a subpar locked 30fps on console at 1080p (cuz i don't own and 4k tv) because people feel that is a even playing field for me since I use a controller. Or do I just say F what people think and enjoy the game at 1440p at 60fps?
I'm telling you now i'm sticking with what I deem comfortable to me.Is anyone else in the same boat as me? Who is coming from console to pc and sticking with a controller?

OK, here's the thing tho. you can aim at someones feet and when you look down the sights it will auto lock to their head. tell me how that is in any way fair? I'm not degrading you for using the controller, all the power to you, but it's so stupid when some guy cross maps you when you're sprinting down a corridor, when using a controller you almost always win 1V1s, and sniper duels. it's just not fun fighting that. Think about it if someone was using an actual aim bot on a console server and killing everybody, that sh*t wouldn't fly. now imagine the mods were OK with that. See our point?

Thanks for the Reply Hardline. I understand your point for sure but let me ask you. Aim assist as I understand it just adds extra "stickyness" to the target. It doesn't guarantee a headshot, or as you say "auto lock to their head". With that said, is extra stickyness better than instant precision with a mouse and keyboard? I personally don't think so but i'd be interested in your thoughts. I look forward to your reply Hardline.

Edited by hardline0328: 8/31/2017 6:13:59 PMI've been lurking this thread, and the general idea controller users have is the same, as you said, "it just adds extra 'stickyness'". what the KB+M players is saying is that AA is op right now and it needs to go. now the controller players don't take into account is that AA is different for every game, like key bindings, not all games are the same. I will link you to a twitch clip here, https://clips.twitch.tv/HedonisticPlainBeeDancingBaby if you slow it down to about 25% you can see that his reticle goes from his feet to his head when he looks down the sights. don't believe me, all you needed to do was go into any game and watch someones kill feed, if someone's using a controller, they're all head shots, I've seen it, its true. this needs to be changed for the final game. if someone is using a controller they shouldn't be thrown in the mud. but they can't just keep getting head shots by just looking down the sights can they? Have it improve aim with chest shots, so its even/fair, you can still get head shots, and PvP is fun for everyone.
-
Uh, I just looked at that clip wtf lol. People actually see an issue with that??? The only things I can say are: 1. The placebo effect is real. 2. The potential for a batch of brand new players to complain about literally anything is starting fresh with the PC community that will be entering the game and will rehash every complaint that has been discussed/resolved over the past 3 years. 3. I am now rethinking maining PC in order to avoid all of the nub complainers, which kills me because I wanted to ninja this at work during lunch.
-
Using a controller on PC is nothing like that, trust me. I used it almost exclusively and it wasn't materially different from the console experience.
-
I watched it. Hmm....what this looks like to me is normal recoil. Take your pistol in PVE and just shoot at the wall. The gun will recoil up towards the head even without aim assist. I'm not downplaying the clip by any means but it's hard to determine if that is aim assist alone or a combination of aim assist and recoil. Definitely interesting though.
-
i can see how you think it is recoil on the first shot but his reticle did stay on his head as the warlock fell...take from that what you will ps. I'm glad this debate hasn't sunk to petty insults
-
One thing you cannot do with Destiny is make generalizations based off of single experiences. Playing over 3 years, I've had all kind of shots miss that should have w/o a doubt hit (when watched back in my stream) and vice versa. Lag + AA creates crazy results on fringe cases, but the overall experience is not out of whack like that by any means.
-
Isn't it ironic that you say "you can't make generalizations about Destiny" and yet you are lumping D1 with D2. And it is not just one experience of this happening, there are many accounts of it.
-
Playing both the console and the PC beta, the experience was the same, using a controller for pvp in both situations. That is not a generalization.
-
You did try to backup your claim by saying you had 3 years of experience.

Edited by Eroc: 9/1/2017 9:01:11 PMYeah I didn't want to express in hours in order to mitigate #nolife commentary. Needless to say, I wish I could filter out all PC players feedback of people who either (a) haven't played on console or (b) were below average console players, because Destiny is a different experience which might taint their perception (based off of my own exposure w/CoD, Overwatch, PUBG, etc. in comparison). No disrespect to those 'virgin' players, but with the history of players' complaints off of [insert w/e killed them here], it's hard to respect people who strongly complain based off of a few days exposure.
-
Well sir, it's less complaining and more bringing this to the devs attention, and defending them against people, like you, saying that a) the game would be to hard, b) the points are wrong ( which they aren't). FYI nothing gets done without people "complaining"
-
Keep in mind that to hastily complain without full comprehension of the situation is as egregious as it is meritorious to complain in order to get something worthwhile done. I find it hard to believe that new (PC) Destiny players, simply over the course of a couple of days, would even be able to comprehend how Destiny should 'feel' in pvp, aim assist or no aim assist. Yet if they are expect to "raise awareness" (or complain, w/e) to something that doesn't feel right to them over those few days, they could potentially be providing feedback out of a place of pure ignorance. Simply because they have not had enough exposure. Not sure your particular history with Destiny, but this happened continuously over the lifespan of D1. Unfortunately, the devs embraced it as it allowed them to create cheap/free "new content" by continuously nerfing weapons/abilities that people did not take the time to learn/understand. Once you had to re-grind to the post-balancing new meta, "poof" new content. If they have different game mechanics between PC/console, I can see a whole new layer of continuous balancing that will increase the re-grind cycling.
-
You know what, you're right. Let's give it a few days on launch, I don't want a shit show of nerf after nerf. Let's just see where this goes
-
Oh, and to your question of top player using controller vs. top player using mnk, it's a no-brainer the mnk player would win. But none of the people complaining about the controller aim assist are good players, from what I've seen.
-
Edited by IM N0T GARBAGE: 8/31/2017 5:28:12 PMI hear you t00n. It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. The people using MnK while ALSO getting aim assist is wrong. On the same accord, if they remove aim assist from controller it will affect players like us who have put years of muscle memory into pvp on Destiny 1. If it does come to that i'm sure we will adjust but I guess it is what it is for now.
-
Although I haven't seen it firsthand, apparently the Destiny MnK expert himself, Dr Lupo, has shown testing that concludes the "aimbot software" that people are complaining about (i.e., using Xim4 w/MnK) in actuality gets constrained in Destiny unlike how it worked in Overwatch. (Context: everyone is cited how Overwatch had to remove aim assist on PC after people started using Xim and so that is their argument for trying to preemptively remove it on Destiny.) It appears Destiny background mechanics constrain how much the aim assist is applied so that in fact, a MnK w/o Xim would be better. tl;dr: there is a huge placebo effect occurring to the PC base at the moment that is a result of cognitive dissonance around them not being as good as they envision themselves in their head
-
Yeah, I am only playing PC (along with my XB) since I am able to use a controller which allows me to go back and forth with my XB without loss of muscle memory.
-
You missed the entire point. Please read the thread, not just the title, and try again. *hint: it's not about controller vs MnKB*
-
I read the thread and the replies. I recognize people are circumventing the way the game is being played by adding aim assist to keyboard and mouse. This same thread also has replies saying controllers users are actually using aimbots and not aim assist like i'm some kind of cheater lol. I still appreciate your reply nonetheless Cayde. :)

Good post mate and yeah i also play on PC! But i dont switch completely, i play on X1 and PS4 too.
-
Thanks my friend. I switch between X1, PS4 and PC as well.
