Here's my argument for DLC: 1. spend $15 while going to a movie (more if you're with someone else and buying snacks). You get ~2 hours of entertainment. Or go out to dinner somewhere, and spend more than $15, and you only really get the satisfaction while you're eating at the restaurant (probably about an hour or less). 2. Spend $15 dollars on DLC, and then you have it forever. It adds to the game you already have, and you get dozens (probably hundreds) of hours worth of entertainment from it.

  • This kind of logic is unwelcome here. :)

  • It's not about cost it's about principle. Come on now, we've all heard the movie ticket argument before.

  • Except, the DLC is $20 and isn't 100 hours worth of entertainment. I don't what movie theaters you go to but i spend around $10 to go to the movies. In Destiny's case, you aren't adding anything to the game you already have, because it's already in the -blam!-ing game. It's not an add-on, it's just locked content that we already have but have to pay for.

  • If it's already in the game, why don't you glitch into the area and start fighting enemies and completing those missions? Oh, wait, you can't. Because it's not finished yet and it's mostly EMPTY. They could "unlock" the areas that are on the disc today and let you go in there and play them and you know what you would say? "This crap isn't finished! Where is all of the content? This is bullshit!" What is currently on the disc is not locked content, it is locked support for the upcoming content, which are two very different things. If you were given a choice whether you could play the content on the disc today, as it is, or wait for it to be finished, without paying anything additional either way, what would you choose? Obviously, you would choose the latter, which proves there is value to the content coming in the expansion. By your measure, you can go see 2 movies for the price of the expansion, which would give you 4-5 hours of entertainment. If you don't think the expansion, with all of the actual content (not just empty areas), is going to provide 4-5 hours of enjoyment beyond what you would get if they just unlocked what is on the disc today, you are not being honest with yourself.

  • Why don't we boycott cars? Most are electronically limited for speed. Meaning, it came with more content but I have to purchase something to unlock it. And yes, my car is a former of entertainment because I race it nationally. And this is why the logic that just because it's on the disc or in the download means you should get it is flawed. I get the aggravation but they could have just as easily made us all download all of the additional content if you bought it. So that makes it better? You don't even own the content. You bought a license to use it essentially. You don't own that content - bungie and activision do. This isn't where you buy a car and you can manipulate it any way you want. You own the disc the game is on but not the content inside. Welcome to new world of licensing.

  • This is how I judge all my "entertainment" purchases to figure if they're worth it.
